Guess Steve got it right! What does this mean for rest of us? Faster space flight? Nope. Hawking Radiation.

Jeff Steinhauer, a physicist at Technion University in Israel, has created an acoustic black hole and observed particles slipping out of its grasp, providing the strongest evidence to date of one of Stephen Hawking's most famous predictions.

Hawking Radiation. I think the link is fixed. Also observed entanglement.

NVM, OP fixed the link x_X

Guess I'll add a relevant link since this post is a waste lol.

Hawkin Radiation Wiki

... and a brief explanation of Hawking Radiation ... narrated by Morgan Freeman?!

the entanglement part is probably the most important detail of it all.

good catch.

An acoustic "black hole" is not an apples to apples representation of a mass/gravity based black hole/singularity, not even close. An acoustic "black hole" is powered externally, it cannot sustain itself, it requires controlled energy input to maintain its state. In the alternative, a mass/gravity based black hole, once it has reached its state, requires no further mass or energy to maintain its state, it simply is. As far as particle "evaporation" from a real black hole, Hawking recanted that theory about 10 years ago I believe.

If paired particle creation were to occur at the event horizon of a singularity and the anti-particle "fell" into the singularity, the normal particle has the highest probability of also "falling" into the singularity. So you would have 1(existing) -1(anti-particle) +1(paired particle) and that equals 1 or NO NET MASS CHANGE. If the anti-particle or the normal particle escaped 50% of the time, still NO NET MASS CHANGE.

You might want to look at some of kip thorne's and other's work on this subject.

He predicted that we discover that black holes are really the rectal sphincter of a really, really, giant being.

Ummm...

WOW

The sphincter of God...

Two hits to the snare drum...and one to the cymbal...thank you very much...

Holy craptastic...

I've just coined the next Arthur C. Clarke...wannabe title..."The Sphincter of God"...
Has a nice ring...doncha think...?

Actual particle based entanglement was shown during BEC experiments in 1993 using an adiabatic reactor at vortex research in Canada under NRC contract and in 1995 using a similar adiabatic reactor with highly accurate measurement tools at JILA labs in Colorado. There is an article in time magazine, June or July, 1995. Some of the information concerning the development of the adiabatic reactor can be found as early as 1991 on keelynet.

Entanglement is a given. It isn’t something special and new. It is implicit in quantum mechanics. The theory of Hawking radiation, which has been around since at least the Eighties IIRC, takes it for granted.
