Nah it would have gone the same way as the V bombers unfortunately. The Tornado basically took over those duties and was a European consortium so less money involved again. I mean did we really need 3 different models of Bombers during the cold War well 4 if you include the TSR 2

Haha see we had that many I'd forgotten one. They are currently restoring a Victor at Duxford which was my favourite of the bunch I must say.

Another interesting side note a Nasa WB57 picked up uranium in the air over Alaska the other day.

Can't help but think we'd have been better off with one large fleet of Victor's or Vulcans and a smaller fleet of high speed TSR2s tbh

The Victor was the prettiest but you have to give it to the Vulcan. It used to rattle my kneecaps at shows. What a beast!

I'm absolutely gutted that I can't find my pics and video of the 2 Lancaster bombers that flew along the coast by my house.

I am gutted that I did not think to take photos when Obama flew over the lake I was fishing.

It was when he visited Stonehenge a while back and these helicopters flew over very low and had 2 (I think it was 2) of those Tilt Rotor Osprey things with them. I assume he was in a helicopter? I am used to Chinooks and Hercules as I am near Salisbury Plain but these things were very loud.

Anyone know what they were there for?

I'm hoping they're in my Samsung cloud account as it was a once in a lifetime moment really

HMX-1 added Osprey to their presidential support fleet a few years ago. They carry staffers, media, and various hangers on.

Thanks for that. I thought it would have been Marines or something. It must be noisy as hell in those things.

The crews are. The President doesn't normally travel with more than the Secret Service and maybe a couple military guards to supplement security.

Their footprint isn't that big though, which is interesting. The Valor has a footprint the size of a Black Hawk.

If you look from the top down, the blade that sticks out past the engine is the farthest point out. The blade sticking forward doesn't go far past the cockpit, and when it comes inward it's over the wing. So it really isn't a huge footprint.

If you go to the Cosford cold war museum you can see all the v bombers under the same roof...with a canberra and various other aircraft hanging from the roof above them...well worth a visit if in the UK.

My road trips are more fun. I have three boneyards (2 civil, 1 military) 2 locations with F-16s, 1 location with F-35s, a KC-135 unit with 8 aircraft, A-10s, EC-130s, and the AH-64 plant within about an hour of my front door.
