How does this work?

A 2014 study concluded that people who were more prone to disgust are more conservative and tend to align with the republican party. But, why?

Some scientists believe it's ancestral and that the adverse reactions were used to protect primitive ancestors from contamination and disease. This way a person wouldn't confuse drinking water with dirty pond scum.

The study measured participants' brain response to "disgusting" imagery using an MRI. The study could predict party affiliation with up to 98% confidence. The questionaire on chartsme.com uses Jonathan Haidt's disgust scale in lieu of MRI and imagery, so results are likely far less accurate. I think so, too. I knew what the issue was and tended to vote "no disgust" but still got predominately democrat. It makes no sense.

These tests are silly, and people are binary special snowflakes. Easy to categorize people into tiny boxes, and lively to tell us all how unbound they are compared to everyone else.

I guess they equate openness to experiences to not being overly disgusted by things. I know I was knocked down by being a bit food fastidious. The ketchup on ice cream and sour milk killed me, and while the idea of seeing intestines doesn't bother me as I've actually seen them before in cadaver class. I would be very much bothered by the pain and suffering of the accident victim which is where the disgust would come from. However, seeing the disemboweled victim on the beach in Saving Private Ryan doesn't bother me because it's a movie.

Obviously, I think their correlation is stupid. I'm no more liberal than most of you who are also testing with highly "Democrat" brains.
