So how do you drive a stick shift over there?

Considering everything is backwards I am guessing in a stick shift car a passenger is mandatory and thats their job seeing as the passenger would be sitting where a driver normally sits. J/K but funny none the less

β€œAn operator of a moving motor vehicle shall not engage in any activity unrelated to the actual operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that interferes with the safe operation of the vehicle on a public road or highway.”

Wow. That’s a bit ambiguous, ain’t it? This could technically include sipping at a flask. I wonder if Utah will enforce this, I heard coffee is banned over there anyway?

I once saw a lady eating dungeness crabs going down MLK boulevard, and man she was handling it. Driving with her wrists. Me and my boy Sed coud not help but honk and laugh. I mean she was getting it with them crab.

I always eat while I drive. I only need one hand to steer, or sometimes a knee. My friend Patch though, he was a true multi tasker. Once going across the causeway on the bay to meet some people (early 2000's), this guy was talking on the phone, applying cologne, then grabbing the charge to hook it up, while shifting through lanes to get ahead flooring it, and taking bites of his sandwich in between. One of the most excellent examples of multi tasking while driving I ever saw.

I think the fines are a bit excessive, but this being law would certainly encourage me to drive more responsibly. I swore that people from Jersey don't even like being in Jersey.

And I am still trying to figure out why my 8 yr old isnt required to wear a seatbelt on a school bus but if he is in my car I would be beaten, tased and shot if that was the case. Yet another flawed law in the system that isnt really enforced other than to make money just like this new law being offered up. For the record all my kids are buckled everytime but had to point it out.

I pretty much agree, and the points to take away from this are that you cannot strip the idea of taking responsibility from people, watch them proceed to do stuff like this and drive like fools because they have no sense of responsibility, and then try to make laws that try to punish them into having responsibility again.

Responsibility is either something you are raised with and society encourages you to have or you tend to not have it.

Speeding here is 10% +1.

So in a 30mph zone, 34mph is spending
70mph zone, 78mph is speeding.

Better than the 55mph highways there lol. You lot take a lot longer to get places than we do.

There are two highways next to me both with a speed limit of 65 and driving 80 is considered normal but yeah you once saw one highway that was 55 in nj so they must all be that.

To Terry's defense I believe he was in New Jersey from the UK before we raised the speed limit from 55 to 65.

Holy overreactions Batman!!!!!

Instead of going through the whole driving is a privilege part of the argument, lets go with the practicalities that this will never become law.
I will assume the Democrats are backing due to your childish reaction of name calling ("libtards"). In reality things are usually far more complex then liberal vs conservative, only the immature think that everything is the fault of whatever side holds the opposite view to your own.

New Jersey has a conservative Replication governor.
The Democrats do control the state house and senate.
However they do not have the 2/3 needed to override a governors veto. Not even close in the state senate.

Your assertion that it could pass under some omnibus bill is also not very likely as New Jersey Governors have line item veto powers. He can veto parts of a bill or the entire bill.

But yea durp durp evil government.

"durp durp" ?? Are you like 80? Or just an 80 I.Q.?

ALL government has long since passed the point of being out of control, 100% corrupt, and making so many laws for so long, all that is left is direct regulation of every last lifes activity.

Pay no mind to Duke, he's just a Canadian living in his white bubble up there.

I'm more afraid of the people who hesitate when pulling out into traffic or any other situation, as they are the ones I see causing more accidents.

That's the FIRST bit of good news I've heard where
the governor can line-item veto an omnibus bill.

For those of you who don't know, omnibus legislation
puts MANY laws and/or budgetary items under a single
votable banner and a state or federal body can vote
YES or NO to a single bill and ALL items in that Omnibus
bill will come into effect.

And since MANY legislators tend NOT to read long omnibus bills,
it allows state leaders to SNEAK IN legislation that is to the detriment
of the body public and put it into legal force. And once passed,
99.99% of all legislation in an Omnibus bill NEVER gets repealed.
In many cases Omnibus bills allow their language to be changed
at the last minute just before final voting which is REALLY
dangerous which is WHY I raise the danger of that New Jersey
legal language which will be likely be sneaked in via an Omnibus bill

I have ALWAYS found Omnibus bills a legal nightmare since many
DISPARATE items that have NOTHING IN COMMON get passed
in one fell swoop with much or ANY debate on specific items!

Omnibus bills need to be stopped as they are far
too dangerous to be put into legislators' hands!

Well THIS Canadian HATES over-reaching governments
and overbearing Nanny States! And while defending
SOME parts of the Canadian Nany State
(i.e. Universal Medicare and a National
Pension Plan/Old Age Pension) some
parts of Canada (i.e. British Columbia)
just IRK me with their idiotic legal frameworks.

===

Anyways, this will be all a moot point soon,
as I will have my self-designed, fully artificially
intelligent 500 million-strong "Grand Army of
the Republic" terminator/robo-soldiers to
help me put a STOP to all of this legislative
and police-state lunacy and RESTORE the
USA and Canada to their former levels of
Civic Liberty, Personal reponsibility and
individual freedom !!!!

hmmm.....now am I just joking or am
I really a fantastic AI/Neural net programmer
with access to millions of dollars worth
of 10 year power pack fuel cells put on
hydraulic Atlas-like bi-pedal and
quadripedal robots that are armed
to the teeth and can track 65,536
objects per second with
multi-spectral sensors...... :-) :-O

Some people drive much better while drinking coffee than others who don't.

soulwaxer

I have been driving since 1973, never had a wreck that was my fault. But I usually am talking on the phone, taking notes, eating a biscuit, and never spill a drop of my coffee, while driving with my knee.
