The problem with such hi zoom is it begins to need a stable mount and a clock drive to keep up with celestial objects like the moon.

But on traffic poles, counting the fillings in your teeth, piece of cake.

I can tell I'm getting older because technology is starting to appear to be like magic to me now.


Not really as even the Hubble can only resolve objects about 300 ft across at the distance of the Moon.

The Camera uses a a very small sensor that compromises quality, P900 Sensor size 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55 mm)


Here is a comparison with other sensors most DSLR's use APS-C or full frame the Nikon sensor is the third smallest size on graphic below.



If may produce magnification similar to a 2000 mm lens on a FULL frame DSLR but a small lens on a BIGGER better sensor can match or exceed it

Here is a crop from the center of an image from my APS-C sized sensor DSLR



Only 300mm telephoto plane at 25,000ft and a few miles down range from my house.

That is pretty impressive for a bridge camera, and at 16MP the digital zoom should be quite good as well.

I, however, shall stick to my **ahem** lens, get great pics of Saturn, Jupiter, Nebulas and other whacky space stuff with it.

No I dont have one, I been using flim SLR's from 1879 then went to digital when 2mp was good now have a 16mp Sony SLT DSLR with an APS-C size sensor.

Another thing to add about the CLAIMED zoom it's not 83x in the true sense it has an 83x zoom range.

If you divide 2000mm the max 35mm full frame eqivalent focal length by 24mm it's shortest you get 83.3333x 24mm on a full frame camera which these focal lengths are compared to is approx 0.5 x as it's wide angle lens so the actual magnification is approx 41.5 x.

The TRUE focal length of the lens on the camera is 4.3-357 mm because the sensor is small 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55 mm)what's called a crop factor is applied which compares the diagonal size of the small sensor to a full frame sensor which is 35.9 x 24 mm that crop factor is about 5.54 if you multiply the TRUE P900 focal lengths by this you get the claimed 24-2000 mm range.
