A photograph has emerged of an anti-drone weapon at a US military fire base in Iraq. The backpack-sized anti-drone system is likely there to kill any drones the Islamic State might use to reconnoiter the fire base's defenses.

The weapon appears to be a DroneDefender. As reported by Popular Mechanics earlier this year, the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security both placed contracts for a total of 100 of the guns, which look like a cross between a TV antenna and an assault rifle.

It works by disrupting/jamming the link between the drone and the operator. This is not a new par se, but rather confirmation of the use of said tech by the US military.

You can read all about the drone defender with a quick google.

Here are some of those.

Even a youtube of the tech in question.

Looks like cheap drone warfare will go out the window in some time. Either high dollar drones/planes or drone swarms are the future

All they would really have to do is make the drone run an AI seek and destroy program and make some smarter missiles that locked onto the jamming signal using RF and visual target recognition.

good point. But that does significantly up the cost of reconnaissance craft to need missles on board. Along with making backpack drones much less viable.

Which only an extremely advanced society could do, ie US, China, Russia, etc.

This weapon specifically jams RF, among others, so targetting via RF would be difficult at best. It would have to be visually guided, at least according to them.

ohhhh. And here I was, hoping someone deployed the Spidey Launcher!

I like this Jamming one better, it seems more feffective, although the spidey launcher looks more fun to deploy.

Skynet?

Sure, why not.

Must be why them terrs prefer rigging a truck bomb and crashing the gate. No remote control will stop a lead foot on the gas pedal.

Agreed but it's only good if you see the drone coming..

Yep. As soon as there were drones...back in hobby plane-helicopter models...the US has ways of bringing them down. Believe it...

And those hobby craft have been around for over 30 years...so has the weaponry/instrumentation devices to jam them.

Its what the govs do...

Ahh drone vs drone. Now that is entertaining. They even have the spy vs spy colors.
