Mountain Runner Finds Something Surprising

Here's a little heart-warming antidote to the popular threads.

A solo runner scaled Great Gable in England's Lake District this week and heard something calling from further down. He headed down there and got to rescue a little, lost critter. I was thinking, 'Not more Pokemon Go?! Is he hunting that last Charizard?!'

It was a nice surprise to see how it all panned out...



Man and beast all alone in the wilds of Cumbria. There's a rich vein of metaphor and literary allusions in there lol. One day that fine animal will adorn the best crockery of the finest kitchens and will thank the noble runner.

Probably fell earlier and broke her neck.

The owner proceeded to thank the hiker and made a delicious lamb stew with it.

I was roaming around Wast Water right next to Gable just yesterday :O

It's crazy the places these sheep manage to get themselves, they're a lot more nimble than they look. Always see them in precarious places but they never seem bothered. I've seen them standing on inclines no man would challenge, they act like mountain goats lol.

Neat-o. I wonder how he knew to go looking.

Could he really hear a lamb from such a distance?

Had to go back and watch parts of it twice.

You're lucky to be in the area and especially under such clear skies.

I haven't been there yet. Been all over Scafell, Crinkle Crags and Great Knott etc and the rewards for climbing/hiking up them are breathtaking views. Last time was during a late winter with the peaks still covered in snow beneath bright blue skies.

It's beautiful how the guy took time to help out the lamb. Reminds me of the footage of the lion nurturing the baby gazelle and the account of the bonobo rescuing a fallen bird in its enclosure. Life is a food chain and yet some creatures break the conventions and do things that appear to go against their natures.

The runner will be the toast of his town this week and deserves to be.

I love how a Go Pro type camera brings events like this into perspective..literally. Without footage like this, it is just a story. I love this video and it's story. It is like I just rescued a baby lamb. Thanks to the hiker, and Kadinsky for the good feel.

Does anyone know if that's a normal animal to find there? Meaning, was it wild, or a lost domestic one?
