Why Venezuela has stopped selling Big Macs

Venezuela’s McDonald's has stopped selling Big Macs due to food shortages within the country. The franchisee said that there are not enough supplies to make the iconic sandwich, which requires three pieces of bread. The franchisee, Buenos Aires–based Arcos Dorados Holdings Inc., told Bloomberg that the situation was “temporary.” Food shortages in Venezuela, however, have been ongoing amid an escalating political and economic crisis. For months, the country has been experiencing severely limited access to groceries and other staples, and inflation is expected to soar to 700 percent by the end of the year. Well this is certainly disturbing. How can those poor people deal with the fact they will not be able to get a Big Mac, oh that is just terrible...I mean sugar, water, toilet paper, who needs basic necessities, NO, Big Macs get all the attention while babies are starving from malnutrition. Poor McDonald's can't make Big Macs, here is a thought, why doesn't McDonald's start giving out Free food to all their customers and just take write offs for distributing concessions? Don't they have enough money?

Very snarky. Congrats. You DO get that there is a FOOD shortage there, right? Including INGREDIENTS like, you know, flour, meat, veggies--all that stuff that you use to make something to eat. McDonalds can't give away stuff they don't have. Rather than blame McDonalds for not giving away food they don't have, how about looking at the damn government for causing this whole thing in the first place?

When I was there a number of years ago for work we went to lunch at Wendy's.

The locals I was with warned me to get the chicken, not a burger, because 'You never know what kind of meat they are actually calling beef.' :O

On the subject the OP mentioned about handing out food for right-offs; It's not very feasible to think the govt can even afford to subsidize you when it can't even continue to subsidize the rest of the economy.

We all know the Government is corrupt and that their economy is ultra reliant on the cost and sales of Oil.

But which Government isn't corrupt?

Sure they allow us their type of democracy, but a two party system is not true democracy. A true democracy allows for all walks of life to participate by having a voice in all decisions relating to its prosperity, judiciary and security.
