The Democratic nominee on Tuesday night, perhaps even more than Trump, was again the star of the convention even as the night was tentatively themed "Make America Work Again" and focused on the economy.

Few speakers addressed the topic of jobs, using their time on the podium to litigate a host of other issues against Clinton. The former secretary of state provided a desperately needed change of subject for a party bitterly divided over its own nominee's competence, ethics, and policy acumen.

Two speakers, RNC co-chair Sharon Day and businesswoman Kimberlin Brown, accused Clinton of covering up sexual misconduct by President Bill Clinton. Dr. Ben Carson linked Hillary Clinton to the late "Rules for Radicals" author Saul Alinsky and, by extension, Lucifer, who Alinsky mentioned in his book. Donald Trump Jr. warned Clinton would "take your guns away" and said she "couldn't pass a background check."

Since presidential politics in the US these days seems just to be about attacking the competition (while seemingly ignoring the most significant issues as much as possible), is it surprising that the GOP convention would be any different?

Aside from whether that's good or bad, right or wrong, I question the tactic. Why is the GOP wasting time preaching to the choir?

Because addressing those "most significant issues" would come with hefty costs for the U.S. public - which makes them unpopular.

Populists (regardless of political party) don't address unpopular issues.

Plus, on the receiving end, the U.S. puplic isn't even interested in an election contest with emphasis on content.

DLF had a piece the other day about how the U.S. electoral campaign is much more about "feelings" and "personalities".
If you had more focus on detailed and descriptive party manifesto of objectives - nobody would listen.

*That is according to DLF - I have no way of saying if this is actually the case.

Why is there an article about the GOP opposing the Democratic candidate? Why is that news Worthy? Of course they're opposing her. They act like there's some sort of controversy about that. Oh how dare these racist white men oppose a democrat woman running for president!

Because it is not working. Republicans should get back to caring about the we the people and our real problems. Otherwise, Madam President is positioned to appoint maybe up to three supreme court justices. But, the sheep just keep going along with this stupid campaign. Bitch and moan and call names til the cows come home, democrats are voting for Hillary.

Hasn't the Gop past nominee's done that that already and failed? I haven't heard Hillary or any of her ilk saying anything but smack talk about Trump. Fight fire with fire I guess is the GOP's current strategy.

It is hard for me to believe that republicans are willing to let the presidency go for 16 years. And lose congressional seats one at a time and the scotus. What is happening here?

They need to stop focusing on just her emails and other wrongful deeds. Or it will be just like when they focused on Obama being a terrorist, and a noncitizen, that they won't be able to stop her from being elected just like Obama.

You don't think having an entire press in the tank for Democrats and whoever is the nominee has quite a bit to do with it?

Because at this point in time, that is the only thing they know and can do well.

Maybe because the GOP just spent 8 years unsuccessfully doing it to Obama; making them some of the most disliked politicians in a very long time.

If the GOP really wanted to win this election about all they would have to do is come out with a list of, even remotely, possible plans which would help improve the conditions of the average working family in the U S.

This should not be all that hard since they already have the house, senate, and history on their side.
It would be unheard of for a party to hold the President's office for more than eight years and any type of platform which could show Trump to be leader with a true agenda, as opposed to an obstructionist.

Wait til you watch the DNC.

Where it's all about ATTACKING Trump.

There is a method to the 'madness'.

Honestly we need to just get rid of the press.

It was originally a way for the people to make sure the government/leaders whatever was doing what they were supposed to do, to keep them in check. It's not even close to that anymore. Opinion took over for facts, and that is not what the press is for.

So if someone was no longer doing their damn job, why are they allowed to stay and get paid for the job that they don't even do.

Start over something. But today's press is NOT what it is supposed to be.

But to answer your question, Yes I think it does have a LOT to do with it, but they are not doing their damn jobs and informing the people they are just entertaining the people. They are helping each party to focus on the wrong issues, and ensuring that nobody wins.

Big difference with Hillary Clinton.

The government agencies have and will continue to prove dozens (possibly hundreds) of lies told by her.

And those lies are not just campaign fibs.

Maybe because it's kind of a big deal to keep Hillary from making any more power grabs in this country. We already know people don't know what they're doing when it comes to voting, which is how we end up with Trump VS Clinton. Best thing to do is damage control, try to convince at least some people to get up and keep the worst candidate from winning.

If Paul Ryan can bite the bullet for the greater good, than so can every one else.

I think you miss the point of a convention. Conventions are to officially name the nominee and build up unity to defeat the other party! Of course they are attacking Hillary and the past 8 years of Obama's policies. They are saying all the things that the major media and sadly the GOP has not said for the last 8 years.

The majority of the American people are pissed about the direction of the country. The gloves are off and pc is out. They are naming names, presenting their issues against Hillary, and it's working! Hillary knows she is in trouble, and that's why the media is focusing on Melania and not the great speeches by Giuliani, Trump Jr., Christie. They will beat that non issue of Melania's 30 seconds and ignore Hillary's lies, corruption, and outcome of 8 years of disaster making Obama the worst President in history.

We did get rid of them. It's called the internet, blogs, ezines etc.. 3 corporations own the vast majority of all TV / Cable media. The people are doing it the old fashioned way on soap boxes.

BUT, it doesn't matter how many lies she tells, and gets caught telling, and what they are about. It has been proven than she is not required to follow the same rules as the rest of us peasants.
