CNN-Trump RNC Entrance

I am thinking Fredie Mercury would not be amused. Many musicians have told Trump to cease and desist with their music. This one stunned me. Trump would have been completely at odds with Queen.

I tried to search online for an explanation. Anyone have an idea?

Eta: Twitter from brian may:

Queen member Brian May said in June that permission to use “We Are The Champions” at a Trump campaign event “was neither sought nor given.” May added that it “has always been against our policy” for political campaigns to use Queen’s music. The 69-year-old guitarist wrote back to a fan at the time and assured he “will make sure we take what steps we can to dissociate ourselves from Donald Trump’s unsavoury campaign.”

So, the answer is Trump has no permission and they stated they do NOT give permission. I see a ;egal problem.

I found this.

www.ascap.com...

The RNC or Trump himself possibly, paid for the right to use it. Money talks.

As I added to my post, Queen said NO. ASCAP is a US organization. Brian May promised legal action and
Trump STILL used it again.

What a jerk.

That thread title is one of the worst I've seen. So is the stupid question. You really can't figure this out?

I typed in the question "Who owns the rights to Queen's music?"

I got this:

www.chacha.com...

Disney owns the rights, according to this. Is that true? I do not know. If it is, Queen can bitch all they want. The person or corporation that owns the rights can do what they want.

Here is another source:

waxy.org...

Disney sent a cease and desist order to someone using Queen's music. So it seems Disney owns the rights. The members of Queen do not own the rights (for whatever reason. Maybe they sold them or maybe they got screwed in a contract. I really don't know.) therefore they have no say. They would lose if they tried to sue.

Why would Trump not be able to play their songs at a rally? Because they asked him not to? No, sorry that doesn't disallow him from doing it.

The members of Queen do not even own the rights. They can ask and he can say "Too bad. I paid the rightful owner, so ne ner ne ner!"

That didn't say trump paid. It outlines how to go about obtaining permission. Where does it say the campaign paid?
I must be missing something.

Yes it is. What does that have to do with the OP, though?
