According to the Maidu creation myths (and many others), Earthmaker and Coyote sang the world into existence. Singing plays an enormous role after creation, as well. Perhaps the "word" is creation itself.

Perhaps the word means nothing without proper intent to accompany.
And who sang those singers into existence.
