Egypt orders Muslim preachers to deliver identical weekly sermons

Egyptian authorities said on Tuesday Muslim clerics would be required to read out identical pre-written weekly sermons as part of the government’s campaign against extremism, drawing angry criticism from some preachers.

An undersecretary from a different province who requested anonymity said the sermons would be written by ministry officials and senior clerics from Al-Azhar, the 1,000-year-old center of Islamic learning in Cairo.

Members of parliament on the House Committee on Religious Affairs would contribute too, as would sociologists and psychologists.

In Egypt's latest action to counter political islam, they have now mandated every imam in every mosque to preach the same pre- written sermon. Egypt is no stranger to political islam. The muslim brotherhood came to power during the arab spring, and this current government had to use the military to remove them.

In 2013, the government had to fire 55,000 preachers who were preaching violence and supporting the muslim brotherhood. The Egyptian government does not differentiate between political islamist groups like the muslim brotherhood and islamic state.

I say this is the only logical thing to do short of criminalizing the political tool that is known as islam. When imams are given freedom to craft a sermon, they will likely choose the politically- motivated, violence- inciting messages because they abrogate the peaceful religious verses.

Egypt lost its identity long long ago. No one visits Egypt for anything other then their ancestors culture and accomplishments.
