It really annoys me how so many adult males, sometimes with children, are obsessing over childish things like videogames, comics and superhero movies and figures.

Example, a friend of mine (mid 30's) was telling me how excited he is about some new video game he plays. He brags about how he plays it till 3 AM and constantly posts video game related memes on facebook.

Another guy I know at work (40 something, married with 2 children) collects action figures and buys videogames for himself! Videogames and action figures?! At 40?? Seriously???

And just the other day, I saw a balding dude on the street, definitely in his 40s, wearing a Batman T-shirt!

I could go on and on. But seriously, what is going on? Adult males should be using power tools, building stuff, working out at the gym and so on....NOT immersing themselves in amusements intended for kids!!

I agree to an extent.

Enjoying that stuff is fine but "obsessing" might be a bit too far.... Especially if your own kids maybe it's time to grow up a bit...

Iv noticed all the cooks at my restaurant all between 25 and 35.. They sing songs from Space Jam, talk about Pokemon and powers Rangers... Nostalgia is cool but daaayum.

Distraction. Entertainment. Soma. Bread. Circus.

I mostly came here just to see I my avatar worked. My hobby is drinking Beer with that dog.

Is this a serious post? Are you joking? Is this really what you have to rant about about after everything that's going on right now? This things are a way for people to escape reality. I don't care how old you are you will always need a moment to escape reality. Not to mention these things you talk bout are an art form and appreciation for art can come from all people. You sound like you need a little cup of chill bro.a reply to: secretboss

Speaking as a 60 year old man, they are my toys and you still don't get to play with them!

Never fails to amaze me how empty some people are.

Why on earth do you even care? It's their lives, not yours. So get out and enjoy doing what you do, and let others do what they enjoy. To focus on others instead of yourself is a big indication YOUR life is lacking direction, not theirs.

Hi. I am adult male. I am married. I own a gorgeous 96A1 for self defense. I am a veteran of the United States Air Force. I was an active 2W2 (Nuclear Warhead Specialist). I drive a 2014 Camaro and sometimes work on it by myself with no instructions. I can work with 1960's tube-based computer technology. I can work on software and firmware without needing the help of others. Oil change. Tire change. Hosts of power tools. I can ride a horse both English and Western. I can build. I work out at the gym.My marriage has been rock solid for 14 years as of August.

I also play Pokemon Go. I play video games quite a bit. I even have figures of certain favorite characters.

The only thing I DON'T have is a working knowledge of why someone like you would be so bothered by other grown men playing this game. I also don't have a working understanding on why an adult SHOULD BE...anything except for whatever they want to be.

Are these adult men harming their kids? If so, call the police immediately. Have their children gone days without meals? Please call DCFS. Have they been driving while playing the game? For heaven's sake...PLEASE call the cops.

Are they otherwise harmless and having some childlike fun and maybe even connecting with their kids on their level? If so, please find yourself a hobby and quit worrying about what they do.

Again....this is just a response to a rant

*scratches nuts*

How does it affect you personally that these people are doing such 'un-manly' things? I personally do not like superheroes or videogames but I am sure my obsession with clothes would piss you off too.

WoW. so judgemental - what does it matter what people like, their geeky interests or passtimes?

Do you have any hobbies?

Do you find art childish? You find stories childish? Read any book yourself?

I think you should stop worrying about adults with pastimes that kids are into. Men like football/(any sports) is that childish too? I think its pretty healthy for an adult to have a genuine interest in things that their kids like, spending quality time being their parent and their friend. What about Disney movies with delightful songs that mother and daughter like to watch togther and sing along to?

Get over yourself and worry about your own stuff, theres no crime or weird obsession with these peoples interests.

B

Get annoyed at me too.

Older folks didn't have the coolness of today.

We didn't have the Internets, we didn't have Halo's. We didn't have a lot of what it seems some people take for granted.

That's just a fact.

Grown adults don't care what other people do with their time, RIGHT?

I know people who spend thousands of dollars on videogames and peripherals etc.

And I also know people who spend thousands of dollars on drugs and booze and whatever they can get their hands on.

So pick your poison. At least the gamers don't end up in jail or worse.

It really annoys me how so many adult males, sometimes with children, are obsessing over childish things like videogames, comics and superhero movies and figures.

Obsessing?

OK let see examples

Example, a friend of mine (mid 30's) was telling me how excited he is about some new video game he plays.

Being excited is being obsessive? I guess if that is all he is excited about and constantly posts about on facebook it be seen as obsessive

However,

Another guy I know at work (40 something, married with 2 children) collects action figures and buys videogames for himself! Videogames and action figures?! At 40?? Seriously???

Collecting actions figures is obsessing?

Yes people at 40 have hobbies that might seem foreign to others.

And just the other day, I saw a balding dude on the street, definitely in his 40s, wearing a Batman T-shirt!

A man wearing a t-shirt equals obsessing?

I could go on and on. But seriously, what is going on?

Your obsessing over nothing.

Adult males should be using power tools, building stuff, working out at the gym and so on....NOT immersing themselves in amusements intended for kids!!

Yeah, and females should be in the kitchen and cleaning while the males use their power tools?

It doesn't really bother me,

EXCEPT:

40-50 year old man, wearing AQUAMAN tennis shoes.

AQUAMAN?????

My god you couldn't have picked a better member of the Justice league for crying out loud?

The only thing that could have been worse, would have been the Wonder Twins. LOL

And by the way, I love my geek fandom (I'm wearing a Darth Vader tee as I type, proudly) but I can also build a fire out of nothing but twigs and sticks, I can skin and dress an animal, I can dress a wound and set a bone and many other "manly" things. So...

but don't you get it?

Those survival skills are ALL you should do...EVER!

When you are not hunting and gathering, you should sit on in inverted stump, stroking your bead, cracking your knuckles, and considering how to be even more manly. Then eat some hardtack and jerky and go to bed on your bed forged from the woods and irons of the USS Texas...no mattress

Whatever floats your boat. My sons father and I are 25 and 29, we are avid video game players, and anime lovers. We will watch Dragon Ball Z Until we are blue in the face, obsess over seeing it in the movies at midnight every time a new one is released.

It makes us happy. Few things in this life do other than video games, anime and our son.

I don't see a problem with it. When he isn't busy helping me with our son, busting his ass at work, or fixing up our house, dry wall, paint, furniture, turning the spare room into a walk in closet etc..... We get our game on hardcore! What I do have a problem with is people who are constantly negative, and people who abuse children. That's about all I have to complain about in life.
