All religions have been used to justify killings, maiming and torture. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize religion is the catalyst that corrupts and brain washes the mind, the soul, and creates conflicts and wars around the world. Just like the saying "it's the economy stupid", in this case, it's "Duh, it's religion stupid!"

So did atheism, non religion
Stalin, Mao, pol pot

It's people

I know you didn't mention Hitler, but nevertheless...The Atheist Atrocities Fallacy

Religious apologists, particularly those of the Christian variety, are big fans of what I have dubbed, the atheist atrocities fallacy. Christians commonly employ this fallacy to shield their egos from the harsh reality of the brutality of their own religion, by utilizing a most absurd form of the tu quoque (“you too”) fallacy, mingled with numerous other logical fallacies and historical inaccuracies. Despite the fact that the atheist atrocities fallacy has already been thoroughly exposed by Hitchens and other great thinkers, it continues to circulate amongst the desperate believers of a religion in its death throes. Should an atheist present a believer with the crimes committed by the Holy See of the Inquisition(s), the Crusaders and other faith-wielding misanthropes, they will often hear the reply; “Well, what about Stalin, Pol Pot and Hitler? They were atheists, and they killed millions!”

Nah, that's crap, atheists murder people for their faith in atheism, 100 million, 100 million
Atheists murder 100 million for their faith, religious people as well were murdered

Your argument is absolutely ludicrous and pathetic
Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot all atheists, all murderers for atheism, their chosen belief

Your argument is dead on the water, there are the facts

Atheism is as disgusting as any and all religions, just a bigger death toll

I did. It does mention "politics as religion" but the way he and you present it are clearly biased, trying to paint ideologies as religions, and not the way it really is: religions as ideologies.

It's also full of generalizations and attacks against religious people, which I, even as a non-religious person, find very disturbing from someone who try to act like he is doing a serious and objective essay.

It's really telling that such a dichotomy is so prevalent in the US, that everyone must take stance on the Religion VS Atheism checkerboard and defend its choice. And it does explain a lot of things about the American society and culture.

Give it up already. You go from thread to thread spouting the same rubbish. You have even ADMITTED it is wrong.

And you wonder why people don't take you seriously?

Then you're assuming the author does not see the irony in his own article.

Have I admitted that Stalin Mao Pol Pot didn't kill anyone, quick show me
Have I said they are not atheist, quick point it out

100 million dead at the hands of these atheists

Is 100 million dead not a serious number, is it just fictitious, communist atheism
Thread to thread spouting how evil religion is but giving no condemnation to atheist regimes

It's a fact atheists have been in charge of country's that have caused the deaths of over 100 million lives

I take 100 million lives seriously, I don't dismiss the atheists who ruled those country's

Give it up, I am just idling, wait till I turn it up

100 million dead by atheists, give it up, why?

Does it not make you cringe, are you happy about that
Prefer I give it up so you atheists look like your kind and loving people not mass murderers

Give it up, I am going to do a whole thread, thanks for the idea
Death tolls atheism vs Christianity

Why don't you do one as well, you can manipulate the data, I can correct it

100 million dead by atheists

Oh look, the same nonesense that isn't relevant to the thread. I'm guessing, by the way you spew it over every thread you can, that this is your new go to for anything you see fit?

You do know why they killed so many people, don't you? God did it. He works in mysterious ways like that.

195,000,000 plus have been killed in the name of religion. That's almost double those pesky atheists

ETA: Oh, I forgot this little bit of information.

The god of the bible killed pretty much THE WHOLE POPULATION of the planet.

Interestingly, if atheism is wrong and god DOES exist, then god would be complicit in allowing these massacres. He is after all capable of stopping them with his godly might.

And doesn't God "work through us"? So that would mean that God wanted all of those 100 million people dead.

Well that's predestination for you.

Does not exactly go hand in hand with all the freewill Gods chucking around.

My hands are up, on that particular subject, i am most assuredly guilty as charged.

The real question through, is it my fault, or did God make me do it?

God made you choose to do it.

That's how it works isn't is? God works through you, so everything you do is gods will. Him giving us free will means that we can choose. Therefore, it was him choosing all along.

That looks about right to me.

"That's how it works isn't is?"

I don't really know how it works, but nether does organised religion, even if it attempts to preach otherwise.

I take some solace from that fact.

Maybe I should have said "that's how it works according to most religions who follow the bible, isn't it?"

But you're right. The religions that rely on th bible are funny. They can't even agree on which bits are meant to be real, poetry, analogy and spiritual messages.

Aye your alright buddy, you said it just fine, i think we are on the same page.

How it works is "They" hook Them when they are young, feed them fear and make them feel ashamed of being Human. Then tell them that if they dont follow a predefined code, set out by an apparently omnipotent benevolent mystery Man, who only has there best interests at heart, who will somehow punish them for all eternity in the next verse.

You definitely summed it up very well.

Have you also noticed that God uses the "do as I say, not as I do" philosophy quite a lot? God kills billions of people, then tells people killing is a sin. According to the bible anyway.

Looking at the entity portrayed in the old testament, compared to the entity presented in the new testament, one could possibly assume they are two different beings diametrically apposed to one another. The former being of the malevolent nature and the later rather more benevolent by both action and request.

Or another way of looking at it is crap happens and over time peoples opinions and social value systems rise and fall, and what was acceptable back then sure is not today, and vice versa.
