Mark Cavendish won the first stage of the 2016 Tour de France. It's his first time in the yellow jersey this tour (or perhaps the very first).

Anyone else following the Tour this year?

I'm happy to be in good riding shape, getting out on the roads at 6:05 each morning and chasing the birds. It will be an interesting Tour already marred by some big crashes, including one involving Alberto Contador.

Type back with your TdF impressions.

The departure of Lance from the scene, so that other people could win, was what made it interesting again.

Dunno where that is, but a mod is free to move it.

The sprinters can make the race exciting, TTTs, ITTs, it's not all about the GC.

Contador plagued with crashes, loses about 48 seconds to his GC riders.

Sharp sprinting was the highlight of the day. Cavendish apparently holding it in reserve, remains in yellow by 0.04 seconds over Marcel Kittel (Ger) Etixx - Quick-Step. (that was after stage 1)

Oh, no wait Peter Sagan now gets the Jersey after stage 2.

Good US coverage:

Mark Cavendish claimed his third win of the 2016 Tour and the 29th of his career.

Yesterday we had the unprecedented sight of the yellow jersey jogging along the road after his bike was disabled in a crash. Fortunately, the officials neutralized the race and Chris Froome remains the leader.

I thought that was going to the big news out of France that day until the event in Nice happened

The race over Le Grande Columbier (sp?) is awesome! One of the best TDF in years!
