Man injured after ignited accelerant thrown in Walsall shop

A man, described as white, 6ft tall and wearing a blue jacket, went into the store and threw the bottle at a member of staff inside the premises. The bottle struck the man causing bruising, some fire damage was caused to the shop after the bottle ignited.

It's plausible this was a genuine attack, but we need to watch out for fake attacks. He looks genuinely shocked. I'll go with genuine, in which case the 6ft man in the blue jacket needs to be caught before he burns someone alive.

Provocateur is always a possibility. Arson is a favourite provocateurs tactic, but no huge media coverage of this, yet.

Chief Constable David Thompson said reports of hate crime were being "carefully monitored", adding it is "no surprise people are feeling insecure" following a referendum debate "that has had a forceful debate on immigration, our relationship with Europe and national identity".
"We must offer strength and friendship for those feeling vulnerable and show intolerance to hateful behaviour in our communities," he said.

I love how the source bemoans "hate crimes" in the wake of the Brexit vote and in the next sentence says that it is at the average it has been at.

Of course we all know "hate crime" means it was a white guy.

Well, no matter what motivated the arson, it was a bloody irresponsible thing to do, given that not only were livelihoods and the lives of staff at risk, but if the fire had caught and traveled up to the top floor of the building, not to mention smoke from the fire, any residential property upstairs would have been at risk, not to mention the lives of anyone inside.

Why ever this fire was started, the culprit or culprits responsible need finding and throwing in jail. If it turns out this was a racially motivated attack, then I hope the full weight of the law on that specific sort of criminal behaviour, comes flying down upon the culprit with such force as to stagger him for the rest of his days.

If this turns out having been a red herring, albeit a dangerous and heinous one, then I hope the people responsible for that operation get what's coming to them. The people dislike being made a fool of.

Brexitt has set race relations in the uk back by 20 years. Interesting point, because in the UK there has been an increase in Muslim on Muslim hate crime i.e. Sunnis vrs Shias vrs Sunnis vrs Shias etc... An extension of the hate from elsewhere. There's even been increased racism in Scotland against the English living in Scotland, since the referendum before the last one.

It's almost guaranteed the "I told you so" London set will attribute everything and anything to the "leave" vote. However, I cannot see why there would be a rise in hate crime. Some small groups may be grinning, but there's a difference between celebrating to arson et al.

It will be interesting to see how this is reported in the future because, as pointed out above, the narrative around hate crime is that it is almost always assumed to be a white person against a minority.
Shia v Sunni may actually, in most cases, not involve any white people at all but will this be reflected statistically?

I'm a bit fed up of all this stupidity being blamed exclusively on the British population.
We are, apparently, acquiring quite a reputation for being anti-semitic, on paper and I would suggest that may have a connection to increased migration from middle eastern areas over recent years.
This has not been made clear at all by the media and is just seen as more "proof" that we are all a bunch of Little Englanders.

All anyone can do to combat that notion, is to keep doing the opposite of what we are accused of. Love our neighbours, look after one another, with respect to, but without concern about what race, religion or sexuality or any other bloody thing, our fellow Britons might be. We are all here, on this island together, and the example we set about who we are, is up to us. We have a responsibility to make sure that anyone who comes here to visit knows exactly how much BS the news media position on our tendency toward anti-semitism, islamaphobia, and every other horrible, oppressive thing, really is.

The vote was one thing, but it will never stop being a good time to remind ourselves, and those watching to see what we do, how much we love our freedom and respect the blood that has been shed in times past to retain it. We honoured our ancestors on the 23rd of this month. Let's keep doing it every day, and take the narrative back for the people!

I would imagine, in the absence of a more reasonable motive at this point, that the media have latched on to Britians exit from the EU, as an emboldening force for militant far right loonies in the nation, who might feel empowered to get away with crap they were not able to get away with before.

Do bear in mind, of course, that just before the ballot day, we lost Jo Cox, an MP, and otherwise seemingly decent lady, who was shot three times and repeatedly stabbed by the sort of walking scum who would have been shoving people into a "shower" in Germany during the Nazi occupation of Europe.

The assumption in this specific instance, on the part of the media, seems to be that the situation might create circumstances in which more racial discord is set to come our way.

As I said above, the solution is to make sure we are vigilant against any and all violent persons, and act to protect our neighbours and neighbourhoods from any and all threats which pop up, in the wake of this. We cannot allow the media to whip up a storm of the sort they are looking for, and we cannot allow the worst in our society to colour this victory for freedom either.

There was always an ignorant minority of racist arseholes and silent cowardly bigots here that were gonna be emboldened by a leave vote but am not entirely sure if half of these incidents that are being treated as hate crimes are anything other than verbal abuse from the regular idiots in the street that usually spend every other Friday night shouting at cars and weighing eachother in for jokes.

What is pretty apparent is the media is going all out to discredit what was a democratic decision, possibly the first one in the past 50 years where the public had a legit opportunity to fundamentally change their society and the reaction of the left has been shockingly childish and authoritarian.

The Jo Cox murder was carried out before the vote so can't be related, yeah there are nutters on the far right, but I think the media will find that to be the case with all extremists, whatever their twisted belief system. As they are after all, always banging on about the extremists!

How do you propose we stop the media from whipping up a storm? Personally I try to point out to others the propaganda where I see it. But I can't stop them from publishing it in the first place...

That's funny I've never had any pride in this nation until recently, when people, despite the propaganda nonsense spewed at them, voted us out of the EU. I was born in the Thatcher years, so I've not really had the privilege of experiencing a decent government, but that doesn't mean there haven't been in the past and there can't be again in the future. Don't get me wrong I think all the current political party's are a shower of #e, but why can't we have better?

I am not saying that anything HAS changed, but what I am saying, is that the media can spin this junk to wrap the rest of the political context of the day up in it, because it will grab attention if they do, getting them more papers sold, more page views, and more ad revenue, therefore more money! Clickbait sells!

I know that, and you know that, but look where we are right now, where this discussion is happening. This is not a place for casual consumers of information! The casual scanner of headlines would be quite alarmed by this sort of thing!

Well, we cannot stop them doing what they will, but we can do the following:

1) keep an eye out for trouble makers and dangerous elements, report them to the authorities, and act in defence of anyone we see being victimised.

2) maintain good conduct at all times.

3) get campaigns going on Facebook and Twitter to gang up on the papers, and insist on FACTUAL reporting on sensitive issues.
