The FBI obtained evidence that former CIA director David Petraeus may have discussed information that was "top secret" with reporters, according to an affidavit obtained by Politico.

The affidavit said that FBI agent Diane Wehner told a federal magistrate that the FBI had two audio recordings in which Petraeus spoke to Washington Post reporters about "sensitive military campaigns."

The investigation by the FBI eventually resulted in then-CIA director resigning from his post and pleading guilty to a criminal charge of mishandling classified information.

So the GOP's double standard for sharing top secret material is showing...here we have the "hero" of the failed Iraq war letting loose classified, top secret material...yet the GOP is still howling over Hillary. Where's their outrage about this?

Hm...pretty quiet from those folks, eh?

You do realize that Petraeus' former role as head of the CIA was more of a public relations job, right?

Was he having an affair with them?

Well that's interesting. I thought I read something about his mistress and him sending emails and it compromising national security. Anyone hear about that?

The FBI isn't finished with Hillary yet.

This and am sure he will be held accountable unlike her.

and he plead guilty and been sentenced. pretty sure he can never hold a job that requires a top secret clearness or higher.

In January 2015, the New York Times reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department had recommended bringing felony charges against Petraeus for providing classified information to Broadwell. Petraeus denied the allegations and was reported to have had no interest in a plea deal.[196] However, on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, the U.S. Justice Department announced that Petraeus agreed to plead guilty in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina to a charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified information.[197] On April 23, 2015, a federal judge sentenced Petraeus to two years’ probation plus a fine of $100,000. The fine was more than double the amount the Justice Department had requested.[198]

And he was charged and plead guilty to charges ending any posibility of holding office. He was facing a year in jail and 50000 fine. The final deal was 100000 and 2 years of probation. This is why you don't have affairs with reporters. His offense was a lot less than Hillary did. Patraeus trused the woman he was having an affair with which is stupid. But he didn't intentionally violate us law.

Yes. I live in Tampa and the woman you are referring to was a wanna-be socialite that trotted around town as the CIA's mistress.

The story goes Patraeus had conveniently left some top secret docs in the drawer of his desk. The hag read them and tried to use them to extort Patraeus.

No.
Petraeus was charged, convicted and sentenced, and cannot hold public office anymore.

Hillary should be charged just the same, particularly for 30 000+ emails.

We want equal treatment.

You are the one who wants "special" treatment for Hillary and so you are the one who supports double standards.

Projection much ?

Yes, and the investigation by the FBI eventually resulted in then-CIA director resigning from his post and pleading guilty to a criminal charge of mishandling classified information. I must've missed the part where Hillary has resigned due to an FBI investigation and her pleading guilty to mishandling (deleting 30,000 emails?) classified information. You're right, there is a double standard, namely Hillary not being held accountable.

Welcome to ATS. I know you just joined, but somehow I suspect you've been here before.

It's been pretty well used before. The problem is he was charged. He actually suffered consequences. Hillary hasn't. Hillary won't. Her penalty for breaking the law is going to end up being absolutely destroyed in presidential debates by Trump.

Hardly comparable to criminal consequences.

The difference is the left wasn't screaming bloody murder, and the GOP is silent about this guy and not raking him over the coals.

What's there to be loud about? He resigned and paid a penalty.

Besides, his mistress blackmailed him. It's not as if he made state secrets vulnerable to foreign intelligence and it's not as if he perpetually lied about it under oath.

The left did not have to because Petraeus got prosecuted !! While the Right was terribly disappointed in Petraeus, we did not stop his prosecution.

So, similarly, would you support Hillary be placed on trial, like Petraeus, yes or no ?
