1500 miles of border would require probably one person per 10 miles for electronic surveillance, another team (4 people) every 15 miles for apprehension. That's 550 people to watch the border per shift, probably 4 shifts a day once you subtract break time, so 2200 people/day which is 3080 people to cover 7 days a week, plus a few more for vacation time so lets call it 3300 people. Then you have the maintenance crews, the security teams to cover those maintenance crews, I bet this wall would require 8000 full time employees.

That is about the snippiest 'math' I have ever seen.

C4ISR can be done with a handful.

4 or 5 FOB's with helos/v-22's spread ever few hundred miles. about 30 people per.

That's so sad.
It must hurt to wake up every morning and worry that the assault rifle you might need (in case of a reptilian invasion or or a grubby family of destitute Mexicans arrives knocking on your door) --- but probably never will -- gets targeted by the gun-stealing monster?

This is just my curiosity asking: Do you spend every day tuning up your gas-mask, cleaning your arsenal, counting your bullets, and reloading spent shells? How many souls must be sent to meet their maker for you to have done your job?

Here's an idea you can occupy your imagination with - how to build a laser-activated force-field along the border. Anyone who comes into contact with that plane of radiation will be instantly vaporized.....how would one accomplish that?

You know, like in spy shows, where the museum has laser motion detectors shooting at all directions in the room, any breach of which will create a lock-down status and poison gas emissions......

how about an unobtrusive invisible wall like they have on the Hunger Games? If you stick your hand through the invisible membrane, it immediately sizzles and drops off your body....ya know. Cuz, that's a thing.

I was discussing a wall - I asked you if you could design one that satisfies all your homicidal appetites - put lasers along the border, invisible to the naked eye, and hook them up to machine guns that are on robotic arms, and if the laser field is breached the guns are set to launch 100 rounds stat.

This stupid concrete/rebar idea is a no-go (not to mention an eye-sore AND visibility obstruction - how would you know what's going on over there on the Mexican side? You think Mexico would let you see what is happening on their side?).


The fricking World Trade Centers made a dandy target. Better to secure the perimeter with booby traps. Keep 'em nervous, you know. It is hysterical wasteful spending when we need our roads and bridges repaired, our population housed and fed and clothed, and our waterways and air clean.

A wall would be on the very bottom of the priority list. How about we get all that other stuff done, and then we can worry about making a better wall.

Have you ever run a household on a limited budget? You have to pick your projects carefully. Decide what can wait, what must be done immediately, and what is simply a pipe-dream fantasy. I'd like to add a second level to my garage, have a balcony that overlooks the river bluffs, a turret with a billiard room and observatory at the top, and native stone for the walls.....

most of that will never happen. What I can accomplish is basic maintenance, an occasional coat of good-quality paint, some hard labor in the yard, and monitoring of the soundness of what I have.

Yes a pathetic fence is in the process of being built. There was actually a legit wall that was supposed to be built, but they wasted so much money that it never got finished. Complete disaster.

Now they have this sad little fence that people just crawl under. The drug smugglers come right through. No point in having it if it isn't going to be a legitimate wall. At least a few sections of wall would make things so much easier for the CBP.

I can see that as an incentive to put the wall further up on the priority list, you know, if it would calm people like you down....

I wondered if readers were aware of how dangerous, how perilous, how desperate these people are that are coming here....
I've been active in helping immigrants (legal or otherwise) learn to integrate and to help them assimilate after they've arrived. I am their helper - their friend - their voice.

once upon a time there was a Portuguese explorer who made friends with a Spanish King and Queen, and they gave him some money to find India (which he didn't, but what the hell - call the people "Indians" anyway). Then other people from Spain and Portugal, and a bunch more from England and Europe and Scandinavia also came here, and some French as well!!!

The French wound up with Canada, which they stole from the native, indigenous tribes. You might have heard of them. "Eskimos"

The English guys, like Sir Walter Raleigh (pant-pant) were pirates for the British crown then - Queen Elizabeth 1, who took the throne on Nov 17, 1558 after her dad Henry VIII died. He was the guy who formed "The Church of England" out of the country, and put himself at the head of the new Church.

So, yeah.....this is all true. So, there were noblemen from all over the west coast of the European hemisphere. The british ones stole the middle part of this continent from the indigenous tribes who lived here. They all speak English now.

The Spanish conquistadores stole everything else from the indigenous people there, and forced Spanish on them.

THAT's WHY.
