To be honest i did not read the thread. But somehow i am pretty sure no one mentionend this yet.
some context:
The Gotthard Tunnel is a very important North/south traffic axe in switzerland.
The Gotthard region consists of high mountains and steep valleys/canyons.
A really difficult place to travel.
Back in around 1200 people built a bridge in the Schöllenenschlucht.
The building of the wooden bridge was a nightmare and it got destroyed several times
with falling rocks, landslides and avalanches.
So the folklore from back in the days was that one man of the rebuild team said: the devil shall build this bridge.
Poof, out of nowhere the devil appeared and said: Easy, i will build the bridge. But you have to offer me the first soul that crosses the bridge.
The swiss took on the offer, the bridge was built. The devil demanded a soul.
The clever swiss found a loophole and sent a goat over the bridge, instead of a person.
The devil got furious and wanted to destroy the bridge. He wanted to lift a huge rock to smash it at the bridge. One woman stood up and put a cross
sign on the rock.
so the devil could not throw it. The rock is still there and is called the devils rock.
Thats the folklore of the place.
The opening ceremony takes this story up and presents it in modern dance form.
So all in all its not satanic in nature, but a mockery of satan, based on a 800 year old story.
