I can not offer you any comfort in your time of need... I am so sorry for your loss. But I would like to offer you a family tradition that has helped
ease the pain of many a loved one passing for my family. Although it never really fades away..
My father started this tradition within our family. It is a simple thing really, but it lessens the heartache a bit when a loved one passes. Never,
ever will it fill the hollow spot that now takes the place in your heart where your loved one once was. But it does help ease the ache a bit.
When a loved one dies from our family, we plant a sapling for them and sprinkle some of their ashes upon its roots. The immediate family takes care of
the sapling until its roots grow strong within the dirt and it is able to sustain itself.
My father says that it is like we are giving new purpose or life to the recently passed. The trees that we have planted in such a way seem to grow
stronger, and more beautiful than the rest. It is like they have some of the strength of the person who we planted them for within them. Usually it is
a tree that flowers each year. Mine will be a lilac tree. And the blooms.. well, they are so much more sweet smelling and beautiful.
But what it does mostly, is when we see it in bloom, we remember how beautiful and amazing that person was. It is like when it blooms, it is a special
time to remember who they were and what they meant to us..even though we still think of them every day. How much they touched our lives and our
hearts. It brings them back to the present and ensures they never fade away.
Very sorry for your loss. I recently loss a family member as well.
Keep you in my thoughts,
