Learning to Oil Paint

Hello again ATS, as I am stretching my arms doing the dark and gory comics on the computer, now that I finished the hand drawn section. (can be seen in my signature "brotherman comics here") I am on a deal getting better learning oil painting a bit more as I am a terrible painter and need practice. So I started a new piece a couple hours ago.

I hope that you guys like this sort of thing and those that looked at my other work I hope the recent change of pace and subject matter isn't going to alarm you, Ill be back to pointed teeth monsters and tentacles and scary machines and stuff soon enough

As always feedback is appreciated cause it only stands to make me better, I am painting with oil paints and I am trying an ala prima style with a really wet brush, sketched completely with the brush and all.

As to stay on par with my last painting thread this is what I am listening to as I paint;

lol I was trying to get away from people drawing and painting portraits non stop for my comic book, soon Ill be doing a 10 page comic short in oils so Ill get plenty of that action soon, right now I'm in the middle of laying out the pages and setching my templates, there is going to be like 4 close up portraits in the first page alone =O

Here you go, granted this isn't the one I will be oil painting...

It is the one I am redoing digitally though, but it may give you an idea of my style of work. I am learning to paint to do comics like this, I am learning digital media so I can just tell people to stfu =D

That or we are both bat # crazy =D thank you for looking at my stuff, I am actually painting on it right now adding more dramatic shadows and adding a little more yellows, I am still very new to this medium so it is always encouraging when people come by and post. When people start liking what I do it helps me stay committed cause now I am doing it for all of you too no matter how frustrated, confused, or strained I get.

Besides still lives and fruit isn't exactly my forte, I kind of gave up on acedemia art BS awhile ago when some snotty ass told me what I do isn't quality enough for community college so I started trying to self publish a comic book. # em!

you know it took me a min to figure out what you did there, that was very clever I see you chopped my painting up and made it appear like numbers with an assigned letter function, pretty cool man, and thanks for wasting your first post on me and I am glad I gave you your first star. May you make many more clever posts

Really nice beginnings. The only thing is that I would have more contrast in colour between the orange peel and flesh...and introduce orange here and there in the background.

I assure you it is fine but for what ever reason the camera on my phone no matter what I do always either dulls the colors to hell or flashes and makes it all white, the photos are not accurate to what it looks like in person and I hate it! But thank you for the advice I am still working on it but had to put it down to let it dry up a little before I start the last details.

I am almost done with it, just didn't post any pics yet, painting the orange glow around the shadows is a pain in the ass and then painting the texture of the orange peel is a bitch, there is a high learning curve I have to meet to become basically proficient at this form of illustration.
