It would be pretty close to the horizon at that distance. A rough calculation gives around 3 degrees elevation.

Now they're saying that the comment that it has crashed was made off the record, and the Egyptian military is denying receiving an ELT ping.

I heard on Sky News around 2 hours ago that sailors in the area had reported seeing a plane on fire.

This would lead me to believe that they have at least some intel to suggest such a thing. At the moment I believe the wreckage is still not accounted for?. Quite how they can make such a statement without any public evidence being made known is fairly damning...

If it is the case then a can of worms is opened to how such a event can happen when the plane departed one of the busiest European airports in the world in a state of what I believe would be on very high alert.

So the plane came from France, crashed in Greece and the first statement by Hollande, is to send "rescue teams" to the mediterranean sea. Egypt holds a national security meeting.

Witnesses in Greece saw a fire ball in the night sky.

France needed a reason to enter the mediterranean. Just sayin'..

This plane takes off and lands several times every single day. This particular day was picked for a reason. Could be a message that MH370 was brought down by the same group.

The timing is interesting given the topic of the Egyptian president's "impromptu" speech only one day earlier. Unfortunate coincidence.

All french medias are saying it crashed 200km away from Karpathos island, not saying it may have crashed, saying it has crashed, and that they are looking for the crash site with the help of Greece. Now since when is a plane confirmed crashed without a crash site ? No I have no doubt they will find the debris site, it just baffles me that something like this can be confirmed without visual proof.

Anyways they are saying that the plane probably depressurized and that it could well be a terrorist attack.

10:48 : a drawing has come out by "Plantu" as a tribute to the crash, and is on the "Le Monde" cover page.

10:51 : Politicians are send out their support to the families of the victims

No confirmation of found debris yet.

This is the only media outlet in France that confirmed debris have been found and this was at 9:59

I wonder if they had any known terrorist-minded people on board. As they have wreckage sighted, will they release a passenger list yet? Terrible and sad thing to happen but a lot of people with relatives or friends on board will be worrying like mad. Whatever caused this its a tragedy.

German media now talks of 66 people on board (earlier numbers have been higher).
56 passengers, 7crew, 3 security


Crash site is estimated south of Karpathos.


(Which is horribly close to turkish airspace - hope it was not some action from turkey).

C'est une information qui circule, mais ce n'est en aucun cas confirmé de source officielle. Aucun débris d'avion n'a été retrouvé à ce stade au large de Karpathos. Il s'agit d'une information donnée par une source au sein de l'aviation civile grecque, mais qui s'exprime anonymement.

the flight went missing at 12:30 or 00:30 GMT with 66 people on board, 12x3= 36 with 66 people missing, im not a big believer of this sh*t, but there does always seem to be some sort of regularity with certain numbers. in things like this. does anyone else agree, 3, 6, 9, 11, does anyone else notice these "coincidences"?
