Just one of those odd thoughts. It has crossed my mind before but I'm re-watching Breaking Bad and the episode with all the characters blood types, and that Jesse didn't know his, struck me to create this, mostly probably, worthless thread.

I have no clue what mine is but I've been lucky, never been in a hospital for more than a hour or so. No major medical traumas in my life.

It might behoove me to try and find out but I'm lazy. Who says behoove these days, anyway, and what the hell does that actually mean? Meh, questions for another thread.

If you want to know, just go and donate some blood. They will probably give you a color coded card with all of your details on it.

It is a good thing to know.

Funny You Ask.
I Thought God Was A Myth.. That Is Until I Found Out I Was Owe Positivie. Truly Am.
However... I'm Poor. And I Think It's Terrible To Owe.

Wow, quick thread. Yeah, I'll have to go see a doc sometime in the near future and if I remember, I'll ask them to check it out.

At nearly fifty years old I probably should know but as I said, I've never been in a hospital for more than delivering pizzas, really.

I think they have little kits you can buy at any drug store to test yourself and find out.

I think any woman who has ever had a kid will know. We have to be typed to determine if we have a risk of rH factor problems.

But I knew mine before then. We had a lab in middle school where they let us blood type ourselves. I was pretty obviously O- then, and the tests during pregnancy only confirmed that.

I have no clue, and I gotta say I'm a bit ashamed of that fact.

Some more stats on blood type!
Blood type Percent of Americans with this type Who can receive this type
O+ 37% O+, A+, B+, AB+
O– 6 All blood types
A+ 34 A+, AB+
A– 6 A+, A–, AB+, AB–
B+ 10 B+, AB+
B– 2 B+, B–, AB+, AB–
AB+ 4 AB+
AB– 1 AB+, AB–
One more thing to point out.
Blood type is inherited, just like eye color.

Yes, it is inherited. I am the only O- in my immediate family. Everyone else is O+ positive which means my parents both carried the gene for negative, and I got to be the lucky one who got two recessives.

And despite the fact that my husband is also negative, A-, they still made me get the Rhogam shot!

I guess all three of us: me, husband, son, are negative folks.

I'm glad you posted this, I don't know mine and I've been thinking about it a lot lately. I'm going to be 58 this year and it seems to me a bit absurd that I have never been told what mine is. I mean, I have had plenty of blood work done for various reasons but never have I heard. I didn't know you could get a test at the drug store.

Did you know your blood type is for life? But there can be a change in your type. A common cause in blood type change is a bone marrow transplant.
