my question is why have I not heard this on cnn or fox?

Because contrary to popular belief Canada turned down aid offers from many nations, including the US and Mexico and for some reason Russia wants to try and play the victim card again.

Russia has a tendency to offer its "hand" in friendship with unforeseen strings attached..
I mean their "union" of soviet states was began as a commune of governing bodies "united" in the fervent belief that lenin's Marxism was gospel....aptly named the United Soviet socialist republic...
For you millennials, there wasn't an actual curtain of iron...it was through Russia's will that this Union existed....

With Russia, a hand is offered in friendship while the other is balled in a fist...
This is their ethos and Canada would be wise to watch the fist and ignore the outstretched hand...

The Russians did not have a magical transformation into beneficent beings simply because perestroika failed so miserably....

Union of Soviet.....

That failed as well.. in this case Russia seems to be stuck in a temporal causality loop.

As John Oliver says -
Russia, the prequel and sequel to the soviet union.

I think we can handle it. This is a HUGE country and this isn't our first wildfire. Nice of Russia to offer assistance though. They probably understand. Having the same type of country. Huge and mostly uninhabited. As Lewis Black said when he toured Canada. "From Toronto to Thunder Bay there's nothing. From Thunder Bay to Winnipeg there's LESS."

Sometimes offers of international assistance are as much about solidarity than the capabilities on offer for in this case Firefighting. For one example New Zealand lent modest but appreciated assistance in the wake of the 2011 Queensland Floods. The same goes for when Bush Fire season has bad patches across the ditch. In the after mouth of the February 22 2011 Christchurch Earthquake Australia repaid the debt with interest with police and other members of other emergency services arriving in quick time.

Canada being able to handle this emergency on their own is suspicious?

It looked like a pr move for Russia to give the appearance they care only to use the Canadian decline of offer as a "poor Russia we are the victim card".

Considering the Russian press release never bothered to mention all other offers, including those made by the US and Mexico, were also declined.

I think Canada should've accepted more offers of help and from Russia, too.

The fire is still burning

Apparently they do need some help fighting the fire. Air Canada flew a 777-200LR to Johannesburg where it picked up 300 firefighters and flew them back to help fight the fire.
