No it is not. Nicotine is considered as if not more addictive than heroin.

Not having a draft and one not being possible are two different things. Do males of the age of 18 legally have to sign up to be drafted "just in case"?

They aren't signing up for the draft when they are 21. The age is still currently set at 18 last I checked.

Love ya, hon, if there were a war bad enough to require a draft, I'm sure they would lower the drinking and smoking ages ala Vietnam. But if a war was to break out that bad that we needed a draft, that would be the least of our worries.

Hell, states have so many stupid blue laws over alcohol the way it is. I'm all for 16 for everything. If you can drive a car, you are an adult. And should start thinking and behaving like one. In public anyway.

That would make vape people techno-junkies?
That opinion might not go over to well on ATS.

Condolences to the people who have lost loved ones to smoking.

The whole tobacco thing is stupid the way they want to treat it.

My mom would send me up to the drug store to get her smokes, I was a kid. No problem. They were $1.00 a carton!

It is so taxed, it is ridiculous. Where is that money going?

I started at 13 in 67'. When i turned 18, MA lowered the drinking age to 18 and I signed up for the draft.

When I turned 21, they raised it back up to 21. wow such luck.

Point is, these laws won't do squat and I agree that if you can vote and die for your country, you should be able to have a choice to smoke or vape.

I'll even bet a lot of vaping going on, doesn't even involve nicotine in the juice.

It is 18 in the UK but some shops (such as the Co-Op) will not sell to anyone under the age of 21 - and you think California is a nanny state! Here our shops raise themselves above the law!

If you're considered old enough to die for your country you're old enough to do everything.

The military is well on the way to banning smoking entirely.

I wish they'd raised the age to 26. Numbers (in age) are arbitrary anyway. Maybe if they had, there would have been some intelligent dialog associated with 'making up' rules to force down people's throats.

We can certainly agree on way more than we disagree on.

I'm more Libertarian where I think we should legalize it all, but that's another thread for another time.

With the exception of younger enlisted guys trying to 'fit in' and 'look tough' ... I've never seen anyone 18 or older pick up cigarettes and start smoking.

Kids start way younger ...

Wonder who remembers this

Trying to thwart a lifetime of addiction. Health issues and dry cleaning. Smokers smell.

I remember very clearly. I even knew the kid was going to pick up the pack of cigarettes at the end. I was ten.

I didn't start until late 20's...
But then again, I'm weird enough to be on ATS.
And I don't abuse, I use. Maybe smoke ten times a month at most.

Now 'They' can also change the lyrics of the great song "Smokin' in the Boy's room" to "Vaping in the uni-sex, at the Jr. college" Who wants to do a 'GoFundMe'?

Hippies smell too but we can't ban them, we just rebranded them as "hipsters" and rolled on.

I think this is a great law. You have to be 21 to buy alcohol, why not cigs. Cigs are bad and any way to phase them out or keep them from young adults is a plus.

I also think 16 is too young to drive, should be raised to 18.

If you can pay taxes, face criminal charges at adult level, fight and even die for your country, I think you should be allowed to slowly kill yourself as well if you really want to. A restriction of 18 is fine for most things but after that you are telling adults what they can and can't do, that borders heavily on the lines of fascism.

I'm seriously beginning to think no one over the age of 9 should be allowed in public office. My 6 year old granddaughter consistently makes more sense than government does.

That is true. Another fact though, is that if I drag my fatass down to Mcdonalds to get a very unhealthy big mac, it only affects myself and doesn't fly over in to other people's lungs that are in my vicinity and coat them with tar and other junk.
