Never really listened to his music but still felt like someone punched me in the gut when I saw this thread. He's a legend and I know he contributed a lot to the music industry so he will be sorely missed.

Supposedly his publicist is confirming this.

I had a teacher in school turn me on to prince by convincing me that Hendrix only had one student, Prince, so I gave him a shot and was impressed by his artistry, regardless of the false Hendrix connection.

It got me past the glitter and into the music, which is amazing

I'm starting to feel really old - it's like the only time I meet ATS people is in a funeral thread.

Terrible news, 2016 has really sucked for musicians so far.

RIP Prince.

I'm over 40 by 2... I feel the same way. Seems I'm going to a funeral every week. I knew a lot of people apparently. 😊

He was a child prodigy and was given a contract by Warner Bros at the age of 16 to play any instrument and write as many songs as he could.

Being a musician myself, I had the upmost respect for the guy.

The fall out he had with Warner Bros was over the fact that they wouldn't release his songs fast enough for his liking.

Man, I am so shocked.

He died of the flu. Which is unusual. Another great bites the dust. Amazing artist.Β

I was listening to raspberry beret the other day. That whole opening paragraph is just lyrical heaven. I could stop listening to the song after that if I needed to.Β

"Seems like I was busy doing something close to nothing, but different from the day before. That's when I saw her, she walked in through the OUT door"Β

Wonderful.Β

Agreed. Heck. You could tell how great he was in his videos. I saw the video to Get Off a few weeks ago again and was blown away by the choreography and the style. Not to mention f*cking fantastic lyrics.

So sad. Absolutely adored this guy growing up. He had something really sexual about him. I can remember dancing on a few tables to Raspberry Beret and when he played Purple Rain on the Brits a few years back he knocked everyone off their feet. The man was a genius with guitar it almost sang for him. I cant believe yet another so young. R.IP x
