Thousands of protesters staged a sit in in d.c. today. So many were arrested that the police had to stop because they ran out of room.

This went on all day, and only made the news in the last hour or so.

You can't protest the government. Just hush and watch your regularly scheduled programming.

What media black out???

Oh, and btw - it was actually more like 600, not "thousands" with about 400 arrested.

None of those links existed about two hours ago. I didn't see them anyway. I searched and only an article on RT showed around 6 o'clock after going on all day.

Actually, 600 looks to be optimistic.

Since when is a protest in DC news? It happens pretty much once a week at least.

What law(s) were they breaking? You can't just arrest someone without a law being broken. Were they trespassing?

Probably.

It was a sit in.

They were charged with "crowding, obstructing and incommoding" according to the Capitol Police.

Yep, looks like 600 showed up for the sit in. It's supposed to be going on throughout the week culminating in a larger event which they're calling Democracy Awakening.

Here's what they want passed specifically:

The Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 2867, S. 1659

The Voter Empowerment Act (H.R. 12)

The Democracy For All Amendment (H.J.Res. 22, S.J.Res. 5)

Fair Elections Now Act (S. 1538)

Government by the People Act or H.R. 20[

They're also protesting for "fair consideration" of a nominee to fill the SCOTUS vacancy.
