The trees stood tall and bare in their ancient spaces on the earthen floor. Arilee looked up at the cold grey sky above before proceeding to her
destination. Autumn leaves crunched beneath her small feet. The sound of a lone crow cawed from a branch above before taking flight.
There it stood in all its gothic magnificence with meticulously carved wood and arched doorways and windows. She remembered the beautiful marble
Angel in chains, forever lost in time. She remembered his story, his choices and the fate that bound him. She could still feel its presence, lurking,
haunting, hiding. Slowly she climbed the dark, highly polished stairway to the top and entered through a heavy door and into the chamber she once
knew.
Upon an antique, marred desk, stood the lovely old mirror reflecting an intricate web of a spider and the branches of the trees from the window
behind. Arilee dusted it off with the hem of her long white gown and saw herself. Long dark hair spilled over delicate white shoulders. She remembered
this mansion and all the hideous, hidden secrets of the past. She remembered the strange chanting, heart wrenching screams of pain and anguish in the
night.
Arilee turned and saw the broken porcelain dolls, her dolls, what was left of them after her rage, her rage against her diabolical parents and what
they had done. They had taken the souls of children and placed them into the lovely innocent dolls of her childhood. They used them as an offering to
appease the Angel in chains who haunted the long dark halls and their very lives. It had been so long ago since she ran away. She lived a long life of
harmony, goodness and light.
Arilee padded her way back down the stairs and glared at the statue. "Were the marble and chains not enough for you to be subdued dark one?" She
asked. Throwing holy water and praying to the great creator, she watched as the marble fizzled, burned and turned to ash. She stepped passed the heavy
doors and into the silence of the night, spread her gleaming white wings and ascended up past the glowing silver orb and glittering stars.
