I merely said that the recession was not Republican created and what recovery we have seen started when the Democratic supermajority ended. So-called 'obstruction' had nothing to do with hindering the recovery. If anything, the lack of action from DC helped the country, neither side was able to do more damage while they bickered with each other.

All you have to do is look at the data. All this talk about a "resilient" economy is BS.

They hiked in December and the market just about had a heart attack. Yellen has been talking down the dollar since February so corporations can have an artificially boosted profit margin to make it look like they beat estimates.

The worlds central banks are doing everything they can to prevent a crash and they are leading us head long into one.

Everyone vote Hill Dawg tho... that way the illusion of a "recovery" can keep on going on.

As with any horrifically biased analysis of data, this one tells but half the story, if that. Yes, I am sure that by the cold, relentless measures applied by those who like to absorb funds without having sweated, bleed, or put the remotest physical effort in, the economy is in great shape, as are the laws of the United States, which give personhood to faceless entities, which despite their personhood are not called to account for themselves or their taxes in nearly a stern enough fashion, when they are found at fault.

But if you take into account all the angles, things are no where near as peachy as the article makes out. Yes, you would have to work damned hard to leave things in a worse state than Bush left them in, and you would have to work very hard to find a congress less likely to actually pass a budget than has been the case during Obamas presidency. But to call the economic gains remarkable is a hell of a stretch. Nothing is remarkable when there are still families living in tent cities, or in the backs of cars, or where significant percentages of people do not live in an actual house, but a trailer or RV. Nothing is remarkable when people STILL cannot afford healthcare, because some idiots do not approve of taxation paid healthcare, and prefer to keep the health and well being for the well off, rather than for everyone, as it ought to be.

Now, is ALL of the economic trouble in the US Obamas fault? Of course not. If the congress was not so useless, perhaps things would be different, perhaps certain measures, passed unfettered and unaltered from their original format, would have made massive improvements to life and prosperity in the US. If the banks had not collapsed, perhaps Mr Obama would have had a better shot at making the necessary changes, better support in congress, a more relaxed atmosphere to get the stuff done in.

But that did not happen, that was not the situation. Let us avoid pretending that things have been done, and done the right way, that have not been done, or have been done the wrong way. We, here at ATS, have watched these things unfold in a way that many have not, like unto the difference between watching the mere hands of a clock, when compared with observing the movement with the rear casing removed. We have watched the hideous machine eat the lives of countless thousands, and followed the action back to its source, inferred and interpreted the data between the lines, and found that regardless of what may have been good intentions, the success of the Obama presidency when measured by sensible means, cannot be said to have been stellar.

Mediocre, better than Romney (which is like saying "Better than a lungful of mustard gas"), yes. Remarkable? Not even a little bit.

Simply put, food stamps are a government subsidy to corporations who pay the minimum wage to workers, but not a living wage. If you make $7.25/hour and work 40 hours a week for 52 week you wind up with $15,080 a year. You would not be paying a federal taxes at that level, but you would still pay SSA (@6.2% = 934.96) and Medicare (@1.45% = $218.66) . That leave you with $13,926.38 a year. If you live in a state with a payroll tax, that comes off the top also. I live in PA, with a payroll tax of 3%, (@3% = $452.40) so that you with $13,473.98 for the year. I won't go into other taxes that are hidden (sales, gas, head taxes, etc). That leaves you with $259.12 a week, or about $1,122.83 a month to live on. Good luck with that even as a single person who shares an apartment with several other people and gets to work by walking, riding a bicycle or riding public transit to work.

Until the minimum wage goes up, our government has to provide subsidies to these working poor with help for FOOD, in the most prosperous country in the world, rather then have corporations pay a LIVING WAGE. We should be ashamed.
