Could this be an explanation for the mythical creature of legend and lore?

Here is a link to new findings on what was a beast weighing possibly up to 9'000 pounds at 6.5 feet tall and 15 feet long and sporting a single horn,

www.mnn.com...
So, possibly unicorns were very real to humankind.

Why does it have to be a horse? There are no fossils of horses with one, or any horns are there? There are rhinos though, and these things…

I read this just a few minutes ago on another site. Pretty interesting find. Every time I hear about Unicorns this classic from the Far Side always comes to mind...

So basically it's the forefather of the rhinoceros.

Didn't they find a skull in 2007?

THAT would be awesome!

Could explain the stories handed down?
Thanks for that...

Not quite as pretty as I'd imagined.

a reply to: intrptr The Siberian Unicorn is apparently closer in relation to a Rhino with a stature close to that of a Mammoth. By the looks of the picture reconstructed from what I gather is from the study of their bones, it kinda looks like a horse. I'll have to look into the history of the horse as to why humans have such a lovely image of unicorns as horses.

a reply to: SLAYER69 lol! Poor pretty unicorns! I think the Siberian Unicorn, unlike the fairytale Unicorns would have been a better opponent to any carnivores... but they did go extinct.

a reply to: TNMockingbird Not pretty, but if humans and the Siberian Unicorns were around the same time, humans back then probably thought they were something special nonetheless!

I'm just going off what I remember. I could be wrong about the date, but I'm sure they found a skull about then.

ETA: wiki says this

Several frozen specimens have also been found in Siberia, the latest in 2007.

Doesn't say skull, but I'm sure I remember skull lol.

a reply to: TNMockingbird Here is a more detailed article that goes into more on the possible relation to the unicorn myth. Further down the article is a written account of a famous Arabic medieval traveler, Ibn Fadlan,

It mentions unicorns in the King James Bible and many atheist types ridicule it on that basis.

I know it is a mistranslated in that Bible but what to do now that science believes in unicorns?

a reply to: chr0naut I had to look up Unicorns in the Bible. I have never come across this and it makes sense they would be mentioned if the bible was referencing the Siberian Unicorn.
Here is link to bible passages mentioning the Unicorn,
creationtoday.org...
Numbers 23:22 and 24:8 both mention the strength of a Unicorn. The Siberian Unicorn was a huge animal and I imagine it had incredible strength.
Interesting!
Thanks Chr0naut.

I don't think there was any confusion in the accounts when it comes to a unicorn being a horse like creature and white!

OP thanks for the post!

Hmmmm do we have any evidence for this creatures color? If it's often white I think we have the evidence we need to call this as 100% the source.
