It is the strange stubbly look of it's whisker holes (what are those actually called because it surely cannot be "whisker holes"?) that I found I couldn't take my eyes from. Have you ever seen Alan Moore's graphic novel The Lost Girls? Either way, that mug effects me as looking how Moore's Alice's white rabbit looked...seedy, in a Soho back street kind of way.
