Trump is by far the most polarizing presidential candidate I have ever witnessed in my 27 years of existence.

I apologize in advance because I'm probably going to sound like a prick.... but.... in your whole TWENTY SEVEN years of existence. So that means ten years ago you were 17? So basically you've been old enough to pay attention to Obama and perhaps a little Bush (with their associated opponents). I'm sorry but I laughed when I read that.

I'm actually not THAT MUCH older than you but I just found that funny. It's like "Out of the TWO things I've seen, this third one is just insane."

I'm not trying to sound like a hater or be condescending but I literally laughed out loud.

I remember when Ronald Wilson Reagan was labeled the same way... a polarizing, un-electable candidate that only wanted to start WW III. I remember my die-hard liberal parents telling me that Reagan would have us all in bomb shelters by the end of his first term. I was a kid... but a smart kid with an excellent memory.

I grew out of being an indoctrinated liberal by reading about the true meaning of the Constitution, reading The Federalist Papers, and early writings of Jefferson, Hamilton, Paine and others.

Universities don't teach this stuff anymore.

They give their own interpretation of The Constitution as an antiquated document, because The Constitution stands contrary to what they want. Power... driven by greed... a modern "nobility" with land and title passed on to the next... "educating" through indoctrination, with a goal of destroying our freedoms.

I doubt many college grads under the age of 40 ever had any of that material as "required reading" while in school...

There's a lot of hubris in this thread.

This generation is neither better nor worse than the ones before it. Let's face it, young people from every era tend toward narcissism and self-importance, and they say some of the stupidest things imaginable and often live to regret it.

And every generation of older folks always looks at the next generation as weak and stupid --because, let's face it, they ARE until they've had some real experience.

The future of America is going to be just fine. Also, this stuff isn't news. It's college kids being dumb. You have to ask yourself WHY it's being treated as news. I dare say it's because we older folks eat it up, especially if the "news" shows someone attacking our ideology unjustly.

To solve this problem, there needs to be back ground checks and a 30 day waiting period to by chalk.

.
If one is afraid of chalk but not affaid of making the people who drew with the chalk mad. Then, these people are insane, insane in the membrane.

a reply to: burdman30ott6 I think your post is missing some major info about Emory, not that I am any specialist on the subject but I am a born and bred Atlantan and have been on the campus many times in my many years with a number of high school friends who went there. Since at least the seventies, Emory completely changed their makeup of genius Americans to overwhelmingly minority, and I don't means just Blacks; wealthy, entitled, spoiled children of every race and creed internationally. Emory turns out some of the best minds as graduates but these are not Amercicans. They typically take their education back to their own countries and turn it against us. Having been socially involved with these Emory students, not to mention their professors who are also mostly non-American non-citizens, they hate us; plain and simple. Emory has a huge endowments and they don't, for the most part, go to American students. I had in recent years distanced myself from Emory because they are quite smug and anti-American. How this ended up in the deep south I don't know but its a travesty. We deep southerners try to ignore this fact but it has been deeply disturbing to many. They don't deserve our media attention; they are not even Americans.

Emory is not the American institution it was 50 years ago. Just sit on a bench between classes (beautiful campus) and you'll see what I mean or more importantly-if possible-involve or try to try to involve yourself with the community there/Americans hardly exist-definitely been pushed out. It a huge favorite of Internationals/free tuition etc based on scores and you get extra points if you are not an American citizen. This is a true travesty and great sadness-they are too smug to even care-after all-their tremendous intellect far supercedes us Americans. What have we done to ourselves?

I have always found these special snowflakes to be about as hilariously pathetic a group of people as I've ever run across. That said, it's getting out of hand and I'm seriously beginning to doubt America's future

Seriously ?!

That's what you think is flushing your country down the toilet ?!

Not the:

- too big to fail banksters ?
- corporate-bought self-interest politicians ?
- budget deficits ?
- failing public education system ?
- jobs shipping overseas ?
- government overspending ?

PEOPLE are what makes a country a country, the people in it. Not the ebil banks, not stupid, wasteful government spending, PEOPLE. All the stuff you just listed off are because of the actions of people, leaders from the previous generation. Sooner or later, this generation will be the leaders. You think evil banks today are bad? At least we know they don't honestly care about us, but one day, if we continue at our current rate, youtu.be... .

Now I don't know about you, but I'd rather have the evil bankers we got today, the single target we can aim for, and who can be influenced by the people rather than a reality of that video where EVERYTHING is offensive and must be quashed. Stupid petty bull# like that LGBT community at that English college that thinks White gay men aren't oppressed enough so they no longee "deserve" "representation" in the LGBT community. It's stupid petty bull# like that that distracts people from real issues. You think not enough people are worried about big banks now? Wait 5 years when everything is about race and sexual orientation (well, even more so than it is now) I'm already tired of it, def not looking to after this election.

When I see this, I think who is fooling who here?

These students know exactly what they are doing and I don't buy the snowflakes description at all. They know they can remove the other sides freedom of speech simply by yelling loud enough.

The scary part is they don't understand the implications of silencing speech and that at some point they will be the ones who are silenced and perhaps even silenced by the same people who led them by the nose into the trap.

Yeah, next minute they be taking bernie signs and pillow cases to a Trump rally.

That said, it's getting out of hand and I'm seriously beginning to doubt America's future, hell the future of humanity if this isn't just an America-centric phenomenon.

emorywheel.com...

Students protested yesterday at the Emory Administration Building following a series of overnight, apparent pro-Donald Trump for president chalkings throughout campus.

Roughly 40 students gathered shortly after 4:30 p.m. in the outdoors space between the Administration Building and Goodrich C. White Hall; many students carried signs featuring slogans such as “Stop Trump” or “Stop Hate” and an antiphonal chant addressed to University administration, led by College sophomore Jonathan Peraza, resounded “You are not listening! Come speak to us, we are in pain!”

“I’m supposed to feel comfortable and safe [here],” one student said. “But this man is being supported by students on our campus and our administration shows that they, by their silence, support it as well … I don’t deserve to feel afraid at my school,” she added.

“Why did the swastikas [on the AEPi house in Fall 2014] receive a quick response while these chalkings did not?”

Holy crap does the jackass who asked this question ever deserve a sack filled with 10 lbs of perspective dropped on their head!

Our future is bleak if any of these thin skinned wastes of space ever advance themselves to any positions of authority. In the meantime, why in the blue hell are university officials placating and coddling them!?!? Remember when the world had balls and letting them hang proudly was considered a positive attribute? "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me" ring any bells? Does anybody remember the good old days (less than a decade ago in most of the sane world) when simply seeing a couple of words you personally disagreed with wasn't an excuse to act like a total sissified baby?

Trump 2016, for the sake of the children.

and yeah, I posted that with every hope that someone, somewhere read it and ended up under their desk, quivering in fear and pain.

In pain? Unsafe? Over chalked political slogans? Maybe student health insurance will pay for testicular and spinal transplants.

I have not posted in a very, very long time but your response made me have to... That.Was.EPIC...

Just a quick aside...

You mention the writings of Paine in your post.

I mention that because, I am a massive steaming lefty when it comes to social issues. I disagree with the sort of limp behaviour that has been exemplified by the students in this case, because it takes things in a poor and unworthy direction, of course. But appreciating the works and life of Paine is not something which is limited to those of a right wing mindset.

Looking in from the outside, I think the main issue is that America is polarised all to heck, and morons always come out of the woodwork, on all sides, when that happens. Einstein once said that things should be as simple as possible, but no simpler than that, or words to that effect. When political discourse becomes so hideously bloated at either end, leaving a non existent middle, opinions start to become so simple that they cease to have meaning. They start to become purely emotional, rather than in any way logical.

This explains both the popularity of Trump, who, in my opinion is the worst thing that has happened to the American public since 9/11, and the bleating of these wet lettuce types in the OP.

College students have been protesting all kinds of things since...well, since colleges existed.

In the 60's it was the Vietnam war.

They tried to protest the 2nd Iraq war, but the Fox News types shot them down. Looking back, we probably should have listened when they were shouting it was all about oil and the MIC.

Honestly? Who the hell cares? Does it really make your life any less enjoyable? Why pay any mind to these people if you disagree? Why allow yourself to get so worked up because some college kids don't agree with how YOU THINK they should behave?

Bitching and complaining about "special snowflakes" is no better, and in fact right in-line with being a "special snowflake".

So, if you bitch about "special snowflakes" -- I guess that makes you a special little snowflake too that can't handle the fact other people don't view the world like you.

Cry me a river...*eye roll*

Special snowflakes bitching about other special snowflakes.

I'm not sure which Emory you're referring to. I lived in ATL for 6 years and frequented Emory while I was attending another school in the area. It definitely had an ultra-PC Ivy League vibe.

Ah, the old "if you whine about whiners then you're a whiner!" chestnut. I guess we might as well just ignore oversensitive people for fear of being labeled oversensitive ourselves, right? Lol.

And yes, it does matter, because people get fired over this stupid crap.

Apparently the University is going to side with the students on that action should be taken against those who made the Trump chalkings.

"Emory University: We Will Use Security Cameras to Track Down and Possibly Punish Students Who Chalked Their Support for Trump"

Eventually, Wagner relented and said he would, in fact, draft an email. More alarming:

The University will review footage “up by the hospital [from] security cameras” to identify those who made the chalkings, Wagner told the protesters. He also added that if they’re students, they will go through the conduct violation process, while if they are from outside of the University, trespassing charges will be pressed.

There's only one Emory University (Well, there's an Emory campus in Oxford, because that's where the school started in the 1830s). Yes, overall it's a liberal school. But the overall student body is not involved in this "action" only about 40 "Special Snowflakes" as OP states. (And trust me, these kids do fit that term and I don't use it often.)

I am a leftist and support many liberal and progressive causes (as well as some conservative ones) , but these 40 or so kids are being utterly ridiculous.

I'm not interested in your ethnic conspiracies. Emory does have initiatives that center around the emerging markets in China. You might have noticed the ascendancy of the Eastern markets in the last couple of decades. You're faulting Emory for recognizing that?

I'm on campus every day basically. Yes, there are a lot of Chinese students here, and Koreans and Indians. The kids who are "wounded" though are not Chinese (or Korean, or Indian).

Here look through the photos in this article. You can plainly see that with one maybe two exceptions, these kids are NOT Asian/Indian: Emory Students Express Discontent With Administrative Response to Trump Chalkings

Chalking is an accepted way of exercising speech rights on campus. Yes, there are technically "rules" but those are usually pretty lax. These kids seriously think that the Administration should try to eradicate the fact that some Americans favor Donald Trump for President. It's preposterous, and not in the spirit of liberalism and liberal arts that Emory stands for.

I'd love to see any real evidence for your accusations about Emory scholarships and admittance standards, but that's off topic here. For the record, I personally know of several American students who received full merit scholarships to Emory, and most of the Chinese and Indian students I know come from VERY RICH families, and they're not worried about the $50K or so in tuition each year. Also, your claim that Emory doesn't remain one of the countries top research institutions is BS, not the least reason for which is their very close relations with the CDC and Children's Health Care.

Just wanted to comment... I am considered a raging right wing nut bag by many liberals that know me, yet I find myself in agreement quite often with what you write... I dont think your a lefty as much as a moderate with a hefty dose of common sense... I like to consider myself that way on most things. Keep being you..

On topic, to me the problem isn't the kids protesting.. its the fact that the university will roll over to anyone screaming some PC BS.. instead of telling them to do something productive with their time. Our schools have abandoned anything resembling prepping kids for the life after school.

If the school punishes those that made the chalk markings I hope a law suit hits them hard.

Its not the kids fault they are being brainwashed by their curriculum, its ours.

Me thinks thou dost protest too much.. they will 'gradually' graduate from what they been learned to a wider horizon by the real world. For them thats just around the next bend.

It doesn't matter how old I am, Trump is obviously polarizing, just look at the rallies and protests behind his name. They are using Trump and they're getting the exact reaction they were hoping for, people fighting and dividing themselves. It's so obvious, but if my age is a reason for you to ignore the obvious and if it helps you sleep at night then go for it.
