This is starting to get a little scary, ATS. Global temperature records for the month of February have been broken AGAIN! This is really becoming a broken record for me as global temperatures are soaring year after year.

It was so hot that February had the single biggest recorded monthly temperature anomaly (deviation from the 1951-1980 average temperature) — a whopping 2.4°F (1.35°C) above the average temperature for the month. The previous record deviation from the average — 2.0°F (1.13°C) — you may recall, was set in January.
In fact, as The Weather Channel noted, “The five largest monthly global warm anomalies in NASA’s database have all occurred within the past five months”:
By all indications, March will be near the top of that last too. And that means that it’s increasingly likely that 2016 will be even hotter than 2015, which itself was the hottest year on record since … 2014.

I've said what I have to say about this issue in countless other threads on this same subject, so What Says ATS?

Pretty soon the deniers will come in droves and say it is all lies and a global conspiracy against oil...

As somebody that lives in the arctic, it is scary to see how much things are changing. If the world thinks we have a problem with the war-refugees from the mid-east now, just wait until we climate-refugee crisis starts.

But El Nino doesn't count in this right? They found a way around that I guess. Yawn

We have felt the change here in my small Alaska town.

The last two winters have been the warmest and most weirdly inconsistent I've lived through in two decades.

Without a solid winter this place is becoming more and more depressing

And still its business as usual. Tearing down the rainforests and destroying the oceans in the name of profit. These are the real issues, not your tailpipe on your car. They dont help, thats for sure, but the politicians are not concerned with habitat destruction and the wrecking of nature, just taxing you and me. As long as corporations own politicians, our world will continue to be sick.

What do I think? I think you should get outside and enjoy the nice weather. The sky isn't falling chicken little.

You also might want to stop reading think progress. You will be a happier person.

It's been pretty insane there's more construction going on this winter then in the last 35 years in Alaska concrete trucks are running every day except for the three week factory shutdown for maintenance. snowboarding and outside is miserable it's been like spring all six of the winter months.

I haven't seen one snowmachine run in the Matsu Valley all winter long I've never seen that in well over 30 years living here

Ya just act like the piss on your leg is water and enjoy it. Not the end of the world right?

Guess you should give us natural new's take on it so we have the facts.
The sky isn't falling, but it is getting hotter at a rate we have not seen before.

Why is this scary? This is positive news for my garden!
And history has told us civilizations advance more in warmer climate, yes, you could call that scary indeed.

What about southern hemisphere and Antarctica? No warming going on there. Global warming theory demands that warming is faster at the poles so why don't we see this happening?
Yes climate is changing and yes some places get warmer but some places also get colder, what's the deal?

Yep.

It's obviously a global issue.

But what a lot of people don't stop to think about,
is what these changes are capable of on a REGIONAL level...
in some cases in can be downright disastrous...

I always see people saying "oh it's nice weather", or whatever...
which makes it clear they fail to see the bigger picture... and haven't yet found themselves having to endure a natural disaster caused by an unusual climate, etc.

There is also people eating all over the world, does that mean there isnt a worldwide problem of people going without food?
Glad you can see the positive in it, your plants might do a little better but you know humans dont work like plants right...

Billionaires are made through global warming.

Those planes spraying # in the skies? Classified, and don't go near those highly toxic drums that become sprayed and spread across our atmosphere.

Oh, radiation in the ocean, on unimaginable scales. .. yea that helps the water cycle! All that toxic waste going back up to the sky and pissing on us later.

Global warming is for politicians and those in control to make $$$$$.

Global instability is from our greed and over consumption of the planet. We take but don't plant, we cut but don't grown, we drink but don't clean.

Mother Earth has taken the burden of a billions of souls.

She is stressed and can't handle the lies and ignorance.

So why is this scary? Is cold going to help? Good luck growing food in the arctic.
There is a food abundance but the whole system is messed up dude.
Desertification has nothing to do with global warming but rather abuse of the land and soil. Our agriculture is wrong is so many ways and is only based on income and production as fast as possible.
This day and age food should not be a concern to any human being, tell that to the guys you vote for and let them supply the poor and the need instead of taxing our asses off.

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't earths average global temperature reached points much higher in the past than it is today?

I don't subscribe to the global warming scam cause I think it's all BS for others to make money with and little more.
Adding a carbon tax and .23 cent a liter tax to my gas purchase doesn't do s#it to stop global warming.

If those in power really cared about this issue they would be doing far more than making the little man pay out the ass.

Why aren't they pushing for more electric cars?

I've seen technology where they use algae to filter smoke from factories.
Where is this stuff? I look out over cities and see clouds of smoke and pollution instead of clear skies like we could have with this tech.

Solar power.
Clean energy etc..

I could go on and on but I won't cause we all know.

It's undeniable that we have problems and all this pollution is not good for the earth but it's not the sole cause.
Earths temps have been fluctuating since it's formation.

From Wikipedia

There have been at least five major ice ages in the earth's past (the Huronian, Cryogenian, Andean-Saharan, Karoo Ice Age and the Quaternary glaciation). Outside these ages, the Earth seems to have been ice-free even in high latitudes.

Graph

It seems our temps have been higher in the past than they are now. They figure theres even been times where we've been ice free.

Yes with humans occupying earth there might be issues when the ice completely melts, but it's not a new phenomenon and there is probably little we can do to prevent it since we're at the mercy of the cosmos.
Taxes and restrictions sure won't help much.

There is a horrible drought with water shortages and wildfires in the West and Southwest of this country. I doubt the wineries and citrus producers are abusing their land. This is from global warming.

Thousand upon thousands of grapevines or citrus trees. That's not abuse of the land? Look at a natural forest, you see any similarities?

What kind of fertilizers do they use? I highly doubt they have any organic substance in them.
Where do you think a forest gets it fertilizer.
