I'm a conservative. I'm a liberal. What's the compromise? Less government.

Government writes the laws and regulations, not the rest of it.

We all have to live by those laws.

Remove that part of it and whole unravels like a really big knot. The banks, corps, etc., cannot compel us nearly as easily without the government strongman using law and regulation to bring us into line.

Your naivete is actually charming....

In the perfect world where we all live under a democratic republic, your assessment would have validity. But we don't!
A fascist corporate oligarchy doesn't give a **** about the rule of law, the constitution, the bill of Right, the Magna Carta, public elections, or the will of the people. Crony Capitalism knows all politicians are their bitches, be they right, left or inbetween, because money is the life blood of American culture, politics, commerce, international trade and Americas' favorite export...WAR.

Vote for your favorite puppet and we will still be having this same conversation till hell freezes over. There will never be "less" government and this coming election in 16 will show the true power structure for those able to give up their phony ideologies and political fantasies. Still enjoy the production...it's a fantastic show with interesting characters, plots, and high comedy!!!

If change does come it will be the from something so traumatic and bloody that the living will envy the dead. Like a nuclear/chem/bio exchange brought about form some megalomaniac religious fanatic. The Crusades haven't ended.....and it's 2 seconds to midnight....love your kids well!!

Have a nice day....

edt...sorry for the halfassed futurist rant. I need to stop reading Vonnegut. Gibson, McCarthy etc.

I can echo this.

I wish the government didn't care, and I wish less people made it their mission in life to make it the government's mission.

I see ... so your solution is to give MORE power to the oligarchy via more power to the government?

You honestly think that socialist laws and policy will actually make it fair and knock them down? Ha! They''ll just be the ones at the top running things making sure that no one ever gets out of the bottom again. And, of course, they'll have all the best of everything because they obviously deserve it for being smarter and better and lowering themselves to run our lives for us.

I will never understand that logic of "here you run my life and that will fix the problem of you running my life."

The reason you didn't understand the logic is because you didn't use any. You simply knee jerked off emotional hyperbole and attributed to me things I never said or thought. I know it's difficult to face reality when it's so bleak, but I didn't create the Oligarchy and I don't support it, but it is what it is. I'm sorry if my analysis scares you so much...I does me to!!

The ultimate irony is that we are now slaves to our own creation.

Irrational negativity, hatred and scapegoating can make us physically sick, but I think you already know that

The government is the primary tool our founding father gave us to effect and change our circumstance in this Democratic Republic. The government gives power to the oligarchy because the oligarchy is allowed to bribe politicians, and because some people think that the goal of government is to augment the private sector and ignore the needs of citizens.

This is why I think it is illogical to be a conservative and expect small government, or expect anything but oligarchy.

I think your points are strong.

People seem to lack the ability to think critically and that often times make it impossible to understand the nature and
inherent problem with modern governance.

Government is a reflection of the people who populate the government they are in. "Conservative" people can't seem to connect the dots and realize that the same politicians who think that many Americans are "Takers", are the same men who champion the oligarchy and advance the oligarchy. This is because the oligarchy is comprised of the biggest and best business entities in the world, there interests are the "PRIVATE SECTOR" that the GOP and conservatives pander to.

If you STOP voting for the people who staunchly admire the oligarchs, the businesses and the private sector, you will start to see policies that help everyone, because the citizens benefit will benefit America as a whole, including private business.

I actually don't think that was his point.

I think he was more saying... Major corporations and dynastic blood lines control out control and much of the world, and no matter who we vote in, it won't change.

I do happen to disagree, as the government is their barrel they use to deliver bullets. Both figuratively and literally.. Take away the barrel, there's no aim.. No way they are going to succeed with their desires.

Just my opinion, though.

The problem with the U.S. isn't so much government taking over as Wall Street taking over.

I'd argue they are doing it hand in hand. They are both benefitting from the situation, so I wouldn't blame one side completely.

Definitely, but private corporations gain more, which is why they essentially control the global economy.
