Members of ATS are asked to turn off ad blockers to help fund ATS by providing revenues through ads. Meanwhile it should be obvious that members, and
non-members each have different reasons for having ad block turned on, perhaps if some of those issues are addressed, and if ATS changes a bit in it's
practices would encourage more, and more members to turn off ad blocking software, and would also attract more members to the website.
Personally, I turned off ad-blocking about 5 hours ago to see how my experience these days with ads on ATS is. It used to be horrible. But if
members are being asked to do this, ATS should do things for it's members and non-member audience as well right?
Of course, the list of changes ATS members ask of ATS should be reasonable. But to help ATS, ATS has to help it's members and non-member audiences as
well.
Any member and non-member audience should be able to give their "reasonable input" on how they think their ATS experience can be improved by changes
done by ATS. Of course, these changes shouldn't be based simply on the opinion of just one member, but on the opinion of the different demographic
audiences that make up ATS.
Asking ATS to ban members, ban posts/threads, etc simply based on having a different political, moral, or other type of ideological difference is not
reasonable.
The following is based on my opinion, not sure how others feel about this.
On the Topic of ads.
The first thing I noticed is the Comcast ad that redirects, and opens another window without my consent. Of course, this will be different to other
members that do not use Comcast. But such intrusive ads that redirect users not only are annoying, but act very similar to malware. Perhaps it would
be best for ATS to avoid using ads that redirect the user without the user's consent. (just my opinion, not sure how others feel about it)
Favoritism.
Personally, I have been a member on and off in ATS since 2004. In it's former days ATS used to be against favoritism a long, long time ago. But over
the years it seems obvious this practice has changed. Not all staff of ATS do this, but I have seen ATS members, and even former staff members
leaving the site because of such changes, and have also seen ATS deny some members statuses such as "writer, scholar" etc at times based on dubious
claims. Reasons given to deny these statuses vary, some have valid reasons while others don't.
There have been members that have been denied status for responding to flaming, at the same time I have seen members who hold and have received such
statuses such as "scholar, writer, etc" participate in flaming, and even insulting other members and nothing happens to their status. This is a
clear sign of favoritism occurring in ATS.
If you want all members, and non-members of ATS to respect each other, ATS as a whole should also respect the opinions of all members, even if those
opinions and views are in disagreement with the views and opinions held by staff members, or members of ATS that receive favoritism. Respect should
always be mutual.
Is ATS an alternative site anymore, or has it turned to just another mainstream media?
ATS used to be an alternative media site, yet these days we have seen ATS officially (again not saying all ATS staff do this) backing mainstream point
of views to the point that it seems to be another MSNBC site, except that we can get news a bit faster than MSNBC. As an example ATS BS videos. Yes,
it seems that these videos have stopped for now, but those that were posted show another sign of how biased the website as a whole has become
officially. We have seen Joe bash at conservatives and other views that differ with the status quo these days. We have seen Joe bash, and attack
members, and people who for example do not agree with the claim that all vaccines are safe, or who don't agree that vaccines should be forced. We
have seen claims and assumptions posted in the ATS BS video/podcast being published as facts when they are only opinion and assumptions. ATS has
become as Political Correct as the mainstream media.
Shouldn't ATS be open to all points of views as long as there is evidence to back those views?
ATS paying Members for Content.
If we help pay for ATS, shouldn't ATS also pay/reward members who provide content?
What happened to the pay system to members that provide content that was discussed about some time ago? Of course, members who make one liner
responses, or who simply respond by claiming that information posted is false without contributing any evidence for corroborating such claims do not
contribute at all.
If any content we post becomes the property of ATS, and ATS is receiving funds because of that content, shouldn't we be rewarded/paid for the content
which allows ATS to exist?
That's all i can think for now, but know that not all members will agree with my points. Anyone else has ideas on how to improve ATS?
