In regards to gun ownership in the US, I grow ever suspicious of politicians that ignore the criminal element and mental health issues and instead target average Joe law abiding citizen. This call for outlawing certain types of firearms will only punish good, honest and peaceful Americans who enjoy their rights to own firearms and stands to embolden the criminal waiting for the public to be disarmed so it makes his illegal activities easier to execute.

Maybe he can explain his rollout strategy of how he plans to disarm all the criminals of assault weapons first, before he targets average Joe.

The primary cause of violence, including gun violence, is poverty.

If anyone were serious about solving an issue, they would address the cause.

AR15's and AK's are legal to hunt with in numerous States and are the preferred choices for hunting feral hogs.

and even if he wanted to ban all weapons not used for hunting what would those be exactly ? you can hunt a mouse with a 50 cal if you want while not practical it could be done ,many people hunt predators with .223/5.56 and 7.62's ,and big game hunters use every thing from large bore revolvers to .50bmg to hunt just about anything from bear and moose to frigging mountain goats so EVEN if he got elected i dont see him being able to do anything with this as the NRA is all ready 2-3 steps ahead of him on this issue

You are correct sir. And as another poster above stated, out of the 8,500'ish murders committed with guns, over 8,100 of them are with handguns.

and when was the last time some one was killed with a legally owned automatic weapon?and the ones the police use dont count as you know they would not be held to the same restrictions as citizens,as a group class 3 owners are some of the most law abiding of all gun owners ,a few cops killed their wives with class 3 weapons but i don't think any of them were automatic either

I don't completely agree with Bernie on gun control but the original post is jumping to conclusions.

"Certain types of guns used to kill people, exclusively, not for hunting," does not mean banning all guns not used specifically for hunting to be outlawed. What it could mean is assault weapons because that's the only guns I've heard him say on record he would consider banning.

Anybody who lives on a farm that has coyotes is likely to have a handgun. Anybody who hunts bigger game is likely to have a handgun. Are they "hunting" with said gun? No, but carrying it with the intent to kill a coyote is still killing an animal.
