How much stuff are we planning on bombing at one time? 150? Wow. I'd rather we spend some of that money on other bomber type platforms to fill other mission requirements other than VVVLO. Rapid Response would be a good place to put some of the money. Or something to act like a Bone. I'd be surprised if the Military hasn't already worked to some degree behind the scenes to make sure our bomber portfolio is very well rounded.

It's not like the LRS-B is some swiss army knife-jack of all bombing trades. Besides anything like a swiss army knife tends to not be a master of anything. LRS-B appears extremely stealthy, and probably has all the bells and whistles when it comes to sensor fusion, comms, actual sensors and stuff. But it can't get anywhere fast. It can't play in the dirt. It can't take a beating. And its highly dependent on other assets to perform its mission. There's gotta be other scenarios where that isn't what you would want, but another type of bomber that approaches things differently.

Why do you think there are so many B-52s and B-1s? Not because they're so pretty or we're bombing so many targets.

A fleet of 150 gives you 20% in different levels of maintenance at the unit 2-5% at the Depot undergoing upgrades or major maintenance, aircraft to replace any you lose, while still meeting your mission requirements.

pertaining to the naming process:

“The airman who submits the selected name will help me announce it … this fall.”

Does the mean we see a prototype roll-out this fall? Which really means next summer?

Before the end of the year I'd be willing to bet. They've already got it locked in and it's just a matter of building it.

hmm. By what? I did a quick google and didn't see it.

In other good news, Bolock has declined to sue, much to my surprise.

Think they were offered something juicy?

The -170. They haven't really advertised that's the name but it's been referenced a few times.

*head desk*

You're right. I remember that.

dangit. I wanted something with fangs to have the Wraith name. :/

Any news on what they've nicknamed the -180?

Seraph or Geist, I've seen.

Ok, ok, ok I take back my words regarding the 150. Makes sense looking at it like that.

But I still stand by my yearning for a more well rounded bomber fleet.

I've heard what the crews call it, and hell no I'm not saying. I haven't heard the official one though.

Spirit, wraith, phantom...only things left are poltergeist, spectre and...ghost! Has ghost been used? It is quite a cool name. Ooh and revenant!

I still like Mario, it won't catch on though.

Other than pranging a couple due to pilot error they actually really like them. They're quite impressed.

Oh the aviation forum members have put up with worse. Much worse.

Speaking of..... there's is still a third installment of the D.U.D.E. chronicles all written and ready to be "deployed" if Bass decides to spazz out and revert to the mentality of a third grader. It's got more "stuff" in it than ever before. *Its titled "Stevens Revenge" and features a slick and cool Commander Garrison Jr.

*Happy to edit this post if requested.
