(CNN)Pope Francis suggested that contraceptives may be used to prevent the spread of the Zika virus, despite the church's longstanding ban on most forms of birth control.

His comments may cheer health officials in Latin America but are likely to upset conservative Catholics.

Now this isn't the churches official stance and the pope made this remark off record but still, this guy is liberal as hell for a pope! It is refreshing to see this kind of attitude in the Vatican.

Why does anyone care about organized religion?

How would contraceptives prevent a virus that spreads through saliva?

If anything this pope has succeeded in making a mockery of religion, as it should be. Belief in a 2000 year old book, is well, 2000 years ago.
