I wasn't sure where to post this, But I guess since I'm a little bit ranty this is probably the appropriate place.

Also I feel like every time I start a thread I need to do a disclaimer. Is that normal? Its probably the equivalent to saying "NO OFFENCE" before saying something offensive. hmm those magic words you said at the start didn't work.. i still feel offended.

any who...

DISCLAIMER: I am for the most part pretty liberal. Im all for gay marriage, Women being in control of their own bodies ie Abortions, Birth Control. I live in a pretty socialist country, and I am a socialist on a lot of issues. I think all races should be treated fairly and equally. Im not a huge fan of guns. I like immigrants (for the most part). Im dont hate anyone for their race or sex or upbringing. I could go on and on but you get the idea.

Im probably also considered a hipster.. so BUZZFEED is ment to appeal to me. I am their targeted audience.
But i think would have to remove my brain in order to ever take this ridiculous website, oh sorry 'news source' seriously.

I use to watch fox news for entertainment value. Sometimes its funny to watch overly biased news be told to me like its facts. But Buzzfeed is basically the equivalent to fox news on the left side. I understand that people deserve platforms to get their message out but I find it difficult when the message is HEY IM STUPID MICRO AGGRESSION CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE.
How can anyone take you seriously?
How is anything going to change when your message seems so petty?

Here are some video examples of why I hate this place. It makes me face-palm on a daily basis.

There are many videos they release just like these that make HUGE generalisations over White people , or Males. For me racism is racism, regardless of what race you are and its not always a WHITE vs BLACK thing, and not ALL males are rapist misogynist pigs.

anyway brb checking my white privilege.

Unfortunately, both sides focus on petty issues and it creates a division among the people, how can we solve real world problems when we are too busy fighting over issues that do not deserve the time of day. We must stay diligent to how issues are framed and the intent or agendas behind them.Nice rant
I agree with you once more. A picture that sums this up well -

HAHAHAHAHAHA oh god.

I think anyone born into western society has certain privileges regardless of what race or sex they are.
But no one chooses where they are born or what family they are born into. making people feel bad for that fact doesn't actually help the less privileged at all. it just helps people feel high and mighty or as if they are making a difference by pointing it out,

Buzzfeed seems to be a resource which counters the right wing bullsnip of other media organisations and news sites, with equally intellectually vacant tripe, which travels in a different direction.

I had the displeasure of seeing parts of the first of these videos, in another of your threads, and I have to say, seeing it in full in this thread, did not lead me to change my opinion of its content. I find the generalisations made by the women in that video, to be utterly offensive to me as a man, and suggest that the things they refer to are not complaints that can be made against the male of the species, but only against a limited number of individuals amongst my gender, who are the most publicised, and least prevalent, in much the same way as radical Muslims are not representative of the entire Muslim faith or even a large minority of them, or extremist white supremacists are not representative of the opinions and behaviour of white people per se.

I find the video discriminatory, bigoted, assumptive, and entirely inappropriate, and I hope the PC police catch up to these narrow minded, clueless cretins as soon as possible.

Nope. I want to touch random black people's hair while simultaneously suppressing wages for women.

IvyNeptune, go make me a sandwich.

Buzzfeed is where all the precious snowflakes go to die, where feelings trump facts and where being a straight white male is akin to leprosy.

They are the beforeitsnews of the current events genre, supplanting subjectivity into their articles to push their overt agenda. Some of their columnists make Sorcha Faal look like a Pulitzer prize winner.

One of the things that annoys me a lot in the second video is the reference to something being a 'black people thing' and that trends are ment to be only for one group of people.

surely at this stage its considered AMERICAN CULTURE. not a thing that only black people can do.

It's not just Buzzfeed, it's the internet in general - salon has gone the same way.
Both sides are basically just taking the 'debate' and argument to the extreme and dumbing everything down for people.
Decent and interesting articles are harder to come across and every site - be they left, right, apolitical or whatever, are all about click bait crap these days and proper journalism and articles are fewer and farther between.

It is very sad but we really are witnessing the dumbification of information and media.
The internet was supposed to give us all access to the real news and unfiltered, unbiased stuff - and it did for a good long while but now it's on the decline, most outlets have been bought up, smaller sites swallowed by huge corporations and the venues for real articles and news being closed off.

The wants and habits of internet users is rapidly changing and attention spans are shorter than ever.
It is a crazy change taking place right now and it will be irreversible, but it seems there's very little being done and very few people are concerned or even aware it's taking place.
We're all too busy taking sides and being bogged down by the latest outrage and cause or crisis - you know, for the 24hrs that we even give a crap, until the next story comes along.

It reminds me of when the terrorist acts happened in france, and lots of people changed with user pictures on facebook to the french flag. or when gay marriage was made legal and people changed their user pictures to rainbows.
you know for a fact that a lot of those people didnt actually give a #. they were only doing it because everyone else was.

First video about males, I made for 43 seconds
Second about whites, I made for 54 seconds.

Whining. Color it, sex it, play it however you want, whining is nothing more than whining.

Yup or the Koni stuff or latest outrage that everyone jumps on.
So long as its spelled out in less than 140 characters and the YouTube video is less that 2 minutes long then they're all on board.

We truly are witnessing Idiocracy come true.

There is just to much stuff in your post to applaud so I would like to repeat only one sentence.

Do you remember back to the point when the internet was first opening up? There were those who said oh boy oh boy, finally a grassroots, a everybody can have a voice and everybody can listen period? But it took a while to come about because the POWERS needed to figure out how to control it first, before they would toss their money into it. But once that was accomplished, blast off. And for a short while as you point out it was, but now it is a waste land.

I do and it was kinda niche and it was quiet and it was ours.
And then yes, it was taken away and commercialized and filtered and now there is just so much noise online, so much junk, so much crap and so many distractions that any sense of community and any sense of that grass roots or progress or the ability to enact change has been swallowed up into a huge blob of likes and tweets and narcissism and colors and BIG SHOUTY HEADLINES OF CRAP! And the real power and influence the internet once wielded has waned and been lost or purposely clouded and obfuscated.

The latest outrage is the suffocated dolphin...

And the outrage is justified because it not only paints a picture of humanity as a cesspit of garbage but also paints the iPhone generation (excluding myself) as a cesspit of hot garbage.
