When you are flexing your "military arms" you don't do it covertly. You do it so the country to which you are trying to make a statement to can see it.

And these days when everyone has satellites looking at each other's movements, how covert can you truly be?

Just like the U.S. has satellites seeing the military movements of Russia in it's borders with other NATO allies, Russia also has satellites to see the military movements that are occurring in the adjacent nations that border Russia.

Russia would not see into the caves, but they have seen the equipment being transferred into these caves.

Looks like you are missing the point. It is the beginning of WW3 , It has to happen. After all it has been coming on for 50+years now.All this is "disguised" to look like normal operations. Its the NWO/NATO attempt to destroy the world.

So, it seems that the U.S. and Norway are "flexing their own arms" in response to Russian actions. This cave is in active use again with new tanks from the U.S. and Norway.

Norway is simply doing as instructed by the US.

Surely, there is no suggestion, that a small country like Norway would have a foreign policy independent of Washington is there?

I don't think Norway as a death wish knowing that countries that tell the US to ...off like Vietnam, Lybia, Tunisia, Iraq Afghanistan and Syria, get bombed back to the stone age.

Tripwire, I believe they call it.

Don't need to have enough to counter 1,000,000, just need enough to make 'em think twice.

15,000 marines, coupled with very competent Norwegian forces, and you've got the makings of "think twice".

NATO is a defensive alliance. Unless Russia is going to attack more countries then they are safe.

Secondly the US and Russia share a border so the characterization that they have never been that close to Russia before is a fallacy.

But you can't negate the fact that this move is part of a response to Russian actions. That's the point.

I think the point is that they can. If facilities exist, then why not use them?

It gives a chance for the military and civil administrations of both sides to have a knee's up once in a while. Norwegians are good people, so it's not as if the interaction will be dull.

Meanwhile - Russia deploys advanced aircraft to Armenia

Four of the fighter jets are regular Mig-29s, which were recently overhauled. Another one is an upgraded Mig-29S version, which has double the payload amounting to four tons and several other improvements. The new aircraft strengthen the 18 Mig-29s and 7 Mi-24P helicopter gunships already based at Erebuni. The build-up comes amid a period of high tension between Russia and Turkey in the wake of the downing of a Russian bomber by the Turkish Air Force on the Syrian border. Erebuni airfield is south of Yerevan and about 20km from the Turkish border.

I know it's only 5 fighters but still, they're making a statement
