Turkey wants ‘secure line’ created 10km inside Syria, including Azaz - deputy PM
Turkey wants to create a secure zone 10km within Syria, which would include the town of Azaz, Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan stated, as
cited by Reuters. The move comes after Ankara’s shelling of Syrian Kurds for four successive days.
"What we want is to create a secure strip, including Azaz, 10km deep inside Syria and this zone should be free from clashes," Akdogan said in an
interview on Turkey's AHaber television station, Reuters reports.
A Turkish official said on Tuesday that Ankara would ask its coalition partners, including the US, to take part in a joint ground operation in
Syria.
"Turkey is not going to have a unilateral ground operation. We are asking coalition partners that there should be a ground operation. We are
discussing this with allies," the official told reporters at a briefing in Istanbul, as cited by Reuters.
"We want a ground operation. If there is a consensus, Turkey will take part. Without a ground operation, it is impossible to stop this war."
So here we have further development on the Syrian crisis, Turkey is now trying to push not only to claim land from Syria but also a full scale ground
operation and I feel that the US is the only stumbling block into escalating this crisis into a full out war.
For 4 days now Turkey has been bombarding Kurdish positions within Syrian, normally an act like this would be considered aggression but the Western
nations turn a blind eye to Turkey only politely asking them to cease their artillery bombardment which as we all know Turkey will not cease because
they want to destroy the Kurds who have been a thorn in their sides for decades.
However, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan mentioned on Wednesday that Ankara does not intend to stop shelling Syrian Kurdish YPG militia. He also called
on the US to choose whether it wanted to back Turkey or the Syrian Kurds. Turkey has shelled Syrian Kurdish forces in northern Syria for four
consecutive days as Ankara tries to stop the YPG (Kurdish People’s Protection Units) from claiming the town of Azaz, just 8km from the Turkish
border.
He's asking the US to pick a side in this war within the civil war, but I'm not sure how the US will respond because the Kurds have been effective
in fighting ISIS through out this war.
Now Turkey wants to take over Syrias borders and have an area of control 10km within Syria, which coincidentally happens to be areas that the Kurdish
forces control and added to this they want troops on the ground in the form of coalition, the US so far has showed restraint and told us countless
times there will be no boots on the ground in Syria however I feel that we see that change. I imagine Turkey with the aid of the Arab coalition will
begin a ground offenses soon enough and drag the US, UK and France into whether we like it or not.
There has been reports today of a car bombing in Ankara attacking a military dorm, could this one of many to come false flags blamed on Kurds which
result in Turkey starting their ground offensive with or without US support ?
It's funny that Turkey barely mentions ISIS when they discuss the war in Syria their focus is always on the kurds and their territory within Syria so
it seems their motives are quite clear
