Well I for one find it hard to believe the reporters were attacking the police unless they were fighting back at the police attackers. If you follow the link many of you will recognize Anna Therese Day.. I think if I were blond and female one of the last places I would want to be in is an Arab jail..

Bahrain police said they dispersed the rioters in accordance with Bahraini law, further accusing one of the arrested Americans of concealing his or her face "with a cloth and participating in attacks on police alongside other rioters in Sitra."

The other three Americans were arrested at a security checkpoint in the area, police said.

The rule is:

One in Breaking Alternate News and One in another forum.

The other thread is in Breaking Alternate News, so this thread is fine.

Leaving it open.

1. fighting the police attackers in the USA will get you dead or a very long prison time regardless of whether arrest was warranted or not.
2. Falsifying information will get you detained in the US
3. USA should stop sending its folks into areas they aren't liked so they can have a reason to go in there full force, stay home, plenty of homeless and destitute folks here to report.

The way this usually works is, we wait for the news to die down a bit, then put some pressure on Bahrain. This usually takes the form of us reassessing our Navy or Marine presence, or the cutting back on exports to Bahrain. Or occasionally, we arrest a few dozen Bahraini for trifling offenses on or near NRCC or NSA Bahrain and wait.

Once Hamad can let them go without loss of face, there will be an understanding, things will exchange, it will go away.

I agree ... Question one: Why were they there on false premises; tourist visa instead of Journalist .. Or is that a CYA story from Bahrain

She and her crew are freelance so maybe they thought they could do some under cover work on the expected riots... ? If that is the case then they were in waters way over their heads. All the Mid-East is on heightened security; as is much of the world...

I make it a point never to go to the middle East when I can avoid it. It would be nice to be able to. But as a practical matter, it won't be safe. Not even Egypt. Maybe Israel, but not in total safety.

Bahrain is an ally. Like other Arab ally states in the region the uS state department and military look the other way when it comes to gubment abuse of its citizens. The unequal cvil rights, police state and squashing of dissent is ongoing and systemic.

Its Assad and Iran we're after, not Bahrain. If anything the Americans are there in some capacity to help further those ends and this story, whatever happened, is cover.

They got to say something, our people were detained, its in the news.

Occasionally you see these stories when we send in some guys from the Deputy SecDef's bunch and they get caught, but I don't think it's the case here.
