Not from the outside-in, I say this because there are many people who spend large amounts of money on anti-aging creams, lotions etc to rub on the
outside thinking it will slow down the ageing process.
The changes you see on the outside are all a result of changes occurring on the inside. Place a fresh apple on a kitchen table and leave it, watch it
age as the days go by. If you were able to suspend the decay on the inside that apple would look as fresh as the first day one year later. If you were
able to suspend in yourself the ageing process which in reality is a nice way of saying the decay or death process you would not age one day
henceforth. There is a saying that all humans die of ignorance and it is absolutely true, it is the lack of the knowledge to prevent this internal
deterioration which is the ignorance humans die of, so yes we all die of ignorance.
Time, dissipation, toxin build-up and degeneration are all factors.
Time: By time chronological time is not meant, the number of times you have been around the Sun is not a factor. The time that is important is
biological time or the rate of cellular division. Some people are young for there age, some are old for their age and others look more or less their
age.
Dissipation: By dissipation is simply meant the loss of the life-force and with its loss the subsequent decline.
Toxin build-up: A result of environment, diet and the body's reduced ability to process and expel toxins from the system as we age. An older person
cannot recover from a night out drinking as fast as a younger person for example.
Degeneration: as your cells divide they make less perfect replicas of themselves resulting in accumulative errors, also the damage to our dna by free
radicals and Solar/cosmic radiation. Was there a time when humans lived longer, if such a time did exist it was probably due to a lower background
radiation level.
The oldest complete epic we have is the Sumerian epic of Gilgamesh which is about a kings quest for renewed youth so we can say for as long as humans
have been writing they have been obsessed with finding a cure to the ageing process.
The old approach was Alchemy and various yogic/meditative techniques. The modern approach is supplements, diet, creams, drugs and exercise oh not
forgetting surgery
