Two Small Planes Collide Mid-Air, Crash Into Ocean

The Coast Guard, meanwhile, closed the Los Angeles Harbor entrance to all vessel traffic while crews searched the debris field and the National Transportation Safety Board planned to investigate the crash.

They are searching in the water for the aircraft.

They were a Beech 35 Bonanza, and a Citabria stunt plane.

Ooohh. Thanks.

Wonder if the stunt craft was pulling some maneuvers.

Might be a while for more details.

They've recovered two separate registration panels, and confirmed both aircraft. We probably won't have many details until morning though.

Two bodies have been recovered. It's still not clear if they collided. The Beechcraft had two men on board, a 61 year old, and an 81 year old. The other had a 72 year old woman on board. She was supposed to arrive in Torrance Friday night, but didn't.

To say the Citabria is a stunt plane is a bit much! It can do mild aerobatics but a stunt plane? I owned one in the 1980s and it was a load of fun. I just hate the media's descriptions when talking about aviation.

I hope that some made it out OK.

When has the media ever gotten anything but "it was a plane" right when it comes to aviation accidents. Unless it's spoonfed to them by an expert they're going to screw it to hell and gone.
