Sorry about passing out.

Well, I am glad for you, and that you still can eat from your own pocket. However, if Sanders had anything to say about that, you'd notice you would not have much left in your pocket - and yes - then even you would need to follow the calling - and eat from other pockets.

Because - that is the whole concept of socialism. Eat from other people's pockets, and then if none left - eat from government funny money until even that ends.
And then go back to work.

Sander's plans save money for the majority of American families. What are you even talking about?

Actually, the concept of Socialism is to have the means of production owned and regulated by the people. Eating from someone else's pocket is closer to Communism, though strictly speaking under Communism everyone draws from the same "pocket."
The original meaning of Marxist Socialism has been lost/distorted with time. Nowadays it seems to mean "something that is done by the Government to benefit the proletariat and middle class."

I don't think you understand. He already has been elected. It is a foregone conclusion, and we are merely waiting for reality to catch up.

Chortle! As a great and wise philosopher once said, " It ain’t over 'till it’s over."

When this cycle of political entertainment started, my hope was for a choice that was neither Bush nor Clinton. Watch what you wish for. I had no idea that the rich kid Trump would be part of the equation long past the blowhard stage. I believe he is a danger to the country as he is an impulsive hip shooter who has no concept of life at the level of the common man. He doesn't know what he doesn't know and seems to be arrogant and callous. In his youth, daddy's wealth shielded him from consequences of his actions. I don't want him learning about actions having consequences when the country is at stake. The US can do better than Trump. His hairdo will be a favorite with political cartoonists, if nothing else.
Bernie has a chance but he will have to learn to temper his ideas and demeanor during the electoral cycle so that he may get votes from the general populace and not just the left. He has to do a better job connecting with all voters and appear as a cool head and not just as a grumpy old man. Any Dem will be handcuffed by Congress as long as the GOP maintain majority and refuse to negotiate. Are Bernie's goals are so far removed from theirs that there will be no common ground to negotiate over?

Strictly speaking I am a millennial - barely yet eighteen - but my mind is and has always been, in another place. Somewhere else. The same, but different.

You are a breath of fresh air on this site, Eilas.

My kids are millenials (a few years older than you are), and they are both of like mind to you.

Where do you live, btw? I know you aren't "American" - but would like to know from where you hail!

I particularly admire your interest in America's doings. Keep talking!

LOl that's exactly what I tell my kids, how cute. I make certain every day to tell my kids that Trump is a racist hater, who hates poor people and is xenophobic. I literally pound it into their heads, lol, I mean , I wouldn't want them to watch TV and be brainwashed with their own misguided conclusions

This is a highly insulting and inaccurate statement. Those 'kids' seem to be quite aware of what's going on. What, you mad?

That is abuse. How about let your kids grow.. and form an opinion of their own.

Jealousy is the only thing anti-Trump people have on him. The man built himself up .. in contrast most people just want a handout. I also believe those who hate Trump is because of his Father 'Only grownup in the room' style of presentation.

Trump or not.. we are still screwed because of people who are so far gone with the whole "right/left.. us/them" mentality.

What amazes me the most is how those who identify as 'any type of Democrat', Would be calling for the head of the 'Any style Republican' Who would be doing what Obama is doing.

Peace through Strength: I only wish the best for this country. Begging won't cut it.

I am not mad. It would seem you are though simply because I don't buy the words of foul mouthed kids who have no real world experience.

They are out in the real world.
You are painting with a very broad brush. There is no keeping "the real world" away from them anymore.
I was very impressed at how articulate they were - this isn't the 70s anymore. Their entire world is different from how their parents grew up.....

Be that as it may, I don't need to hear regurgitated pitches from kids. I would love to see these kids after graduating .. and having to provide for themselves.

Side note: Why are Trump supporters painted with such a broad stroke? It goes both ways you know.

How insulting, how can it be abuse to often reinforce to your children how evil and racist all republicans are. I think of it as a public service announcement. It's not like I'm brainwashing them like Fox news tries to do.

I'm not really sure how to respond.. I can say that you should relax a little bit.

I really hope you can find the courage to not teach your kids to hate someone simply because they hold a different opinion.

For example: Your kids might be taught that only whites owned slaves: When in reality the first slave owner was black.. they were brought over by blacks.. And even FURTHER back.. In the time of the Roman Empire.. Mostly whites were slaves.

Just what are you trying to say ? You think that because almost every culture and race has been oppressed that it's ok for white people and republicans to hate poor people, be racist, and do racist things to everyone ? That doesn't make sense

Lots of them have been taught those things....and they can look it up anytime they bloody-well think of it.

They have the world at their fingertips......watching. Listening. Learning. Developing their own sense of identity, ideology, future plans, etc. They are adolescents. It is their "job" to do those things as the brain continues to develop......it won't be fully developed until they reach around 25 or so - possibly even longer. The tasks of adolescents:

Differentiate from family (as in, I am different, NOT as in 'distance')

Consider career plans

....
bah - it's been 10 years since I spoke about this very topic at a national conference; simpler for me to just c/p a site that delineates them. I do have my original document stored on my computer, a hand-out that I would be happy to forward to you.

So: here they are: courtesy of MIT (Yeah, that "MIT")

Ten Tasks of Adolescent Development

... critical developmental tasks that teenagers need to undertake to make a successful transition to adulthood:

Adjust to sexually maturing bodies and feelings »

Develop and apply abstract thinking skills »

Develop and apply new perspective on human relationships »

Develop and apply new coping skills in areas such as decision making,
problem solving, and conflict resolution »

Identify meaningful moral standards, values, and belief systems »

Understand and express more complex emotional experiences »

Form friendships that are mutually close and supportive »

Establish key aspects of identity »

Meet the demands of increasingly mature roles and responsibilities »

Renegotiate relationships with adults in parenting roles »

These kids are right on track. This is growing up in the 21st century.
They may have used inappropriate language for the venue, but their ideas were very sound.

Don't let Donald's revisionist history and 'self-made' myth cloud your thinking. "Fred Trump’s business success not only provided Donald Trump with a posh youth of private schools and economic security but eventually blessed him with an inheritance worth an estimated $40 million to $200 million."
www.alternet.org...'s_protection_mostly_ did_the_trick

So, 'the Donald' got one of the biggest handouts ever. His 'Only grownup in the room' style of presentation is annoying because he is an arrogant, shallow thinker who tends to think he is the 'Only grownup in the room' when in fact he is more of an emotionally stunted adolescent; the perpetual frat boy who moves from trophy wife to trophy wife. This country can do far better than this blowhard.

Democrats only exist because of the racism in America. Racism is not specific to one race. It is also not innate..It is taught. I do not condone racism either.

You only believe ALL Republicans are racist because the DNC tells you so.

Buzzy: What if I told you there are a lot of bright kids on the opposite end of the spectrum? You would probably say they are wrong and brainwashed and racist etc..

The the dirty little secret is .. they are kids.. they can't vote. Furthermore they do not fend for themselves..

I used to have my view of the world before adulthood.. My view is dramatically different now that I have a young child of my own .. my own house and assets.

Buzzy: What if I told you there are a lot of bright kids on the opposite end of the spectrum?

What spectrum is that? The potty mouth spectrum? The libertarian spectrum? The Kim Davis spetrum?
Doesn't matter, so - 'What if' you told me that?

You would probably say they are wrong and brainwashed and racist etc..

No.

I would say they are right on track......
I would say: "Of course there are kids on the other end of the adolescent spectrum!"

The the dirty little secret is .. they are kids.. they can't vote. Furthermore they do not fend for themselves..

So, really? So, kids who are seniors in high school, who will, in a few months, be emancipated and eligible to vote - are the dirty little secret of....????? They are paying attention. And how the hell do you know they aren't fending for themselves? You have no idea how many of them have jobs after school, or are paying rent to their folks, or are saving up to establish their own abode......

I used to have my view of the world before adulthood..

Yeah. That happens.

My view is dramatically different now that I have a young child of my own .. my own house and assets.

Quite.
And in 20 years, your view will be dramatically different once again. (I am 20 years ahead of your situation now. My kids are in their 20s.)

You hear so much about the self-absorbed millenials being ignorant jerks, or at least I have read a ton of threads on ATS pointing in that direction. These kids are pretty empathetic, happy, and knowledgeable for their age. Gotta give them props.
