Actually they are only partly incorrect, we know from broad genetic research that most Saxon's and Angles did not bring there woman folk but were only too eager to take the pretty native lady's (and if you read some of the Roman reports many of the British lady's were very pretty with red and auburn hair as well as Golden (which I would interpret as a reddish or strawberry blonde), of course they British Celt's were actually a widely travelled people and as Britain was the source of most Tin in the classical world the likely had trade with many nation's including the Pre Saxon (pre hunnic) Germanic tribe's and definitely the north African Carthaginian traders.

The English is a broad term to name those whom have Saxon Ancestry, The first Saxon's according to welsh legend were two mercenary warrior's and there men called Hengist (the Stallion) and Horsa (the Horse), there name's give away the fact these warlords were likey Hun rather than Saxon by ancestry or at least descended from Hun's on there paternal side.

According to the welsh legend a British king called Vortigan (Possibly a tribal chieftain of one of the British tribes whom had been romanized for nearly 400 years at this point) just after the Roman's had withdrawn had hired these men in order to defeat his rival's and after they had done so he tried to renege on his bargain with them so they simply took his land and so began the Saxon invasion's.

The Name English comes from Angles and Saxon's of AngleSaxon/Anglo Saxon and remains in Scotland in there term for the English the Sassanax, England was not however made up of just the Saxons, there British Slave's and wives but also of the Dane's (northern England) and the Viking's whom had kingdom's here which came and went as wars swept the land.

Today the English would be speaking a language more akin to Danish, Dutch or German but in 1066 we were invaded by the Normon's across the wale road (English channel) whom conquered Middle Earth (the Saxon name for England) and raped the woman whom in a maternal line were descended from the woman the Saxon's had raped.

So on your maternal side if you are English you may have actually ancestry dating back over 2 to 4 thousand years if not longer but on your maternal side you will likely have ancestry dating back to between 1 to 2 thousand years, if you are welsh you have a much higher chance of actual british male ancestry dating back to the Roman and earlier periods and if you are a scot you have about a 1 in 4 chance of having pictish male ancestry with the pict's being probably the oldest (the Real) British tribe, guess what they were a sallow skinned people according to many ancient account's.

So the history curriculum has it at least partially right but is not actually correct unless we are speaking about the Pleistocene hunter gatherers and we really do not know what race they were though current thinking is that they were probably black but that is back before the last ice age.

Oh good grief, don't use anything from the bloody Express. It's a useless terrible no-good piece of pondscum excuse for a paper.

www.telegraph.co.uk... think its silly to put it into history of our Country because usually history covers eras where there are at least written accounts.

However, if every Country were to study their history going back to prehistoric early man times then apparently all of us alive today descend from Africa.

In Kents Cavern in Torquay, Devon they have found remains of our earliest ancestors who do indeed have African origins.

What utter boll.cks. The UK are a group of islands that have been invaded for millenia. Every single group that came here, and settled here, ultimately became English, Welsh, Scots or Irish. Each country and even regions within each country having origins that were predominantly from a.n.other area of the world. The vast majority being Europe.

In order to state that "africans" were the original occupiers of Britain goes against logic and DNA! We are supposed to believe that people on boats all the way from Africa occupied Britain in preference from the Gauls 20 miles across the English channel. Yeah right!!!

DNA testing shows that there was indeed a very high proportion of people of North African origin in Londinium but not Britain. Subtle difference. Those Africans came here with the Romans. However they did not replace the whole population of Britain and they were most certainly not the original occupiers, who came from Northern Europe.

I do concur that Britain was ruled by a Black African as long ago as the 1st century AD and that that emperor even died in Ebracum (York north England). But he was one man not a whole population.

Don't tell UKIP that a Black African ruled Britain 2000 years ago!

We're a mongrel nation - I use that as a compliment, far better than being inbred - Indeed Berbers were here before the official term English was adopted/formed and may go as far back as the mini ice age era. Morris danccing came from the Black Mooors in Spain and was nicked by the 'english' as their own

Likewise pretty much ever single nation migrated here at some point or other thousands of years ago - odd for the academic to only pick up on black people - but this is The Express.

The crux of the matter is when does to history and consensus show England was officially formed as is recognised today so the OP does pose a vet valid and interesting question.

It was the 2nd/3rd century and he wasn't black.

Septimius Severus (reign: 193-211) was of mixed race; his mother was European, his father Tunisian/Libyan.
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Why would UKIP give a toss who ruled Britain nearly 2000 years ago? It's the idiotic Marxists who are spreading disinformation.

The outrage is overblown. The course doesn't state Africans populated the isles before the 'English.' Only that there were Africans present (as part of a Roman Legion) before the English (i.e. Anglo-Saxons) were. That is true, by about 300 years. It doesn't say they were there before pre-historic Britons.

...a Roman legion of North Africans briefly stationed on Hadrian’s Wall in the 3rd Century, before the arrival of Anglo-Saxons.

Up to 500 ‘Aurelian’ Moors – named in honour of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, popularised in the film Gladiator – manned a fort near Carlisle.

Did they in fact 'settle' there after their term in the Roman army was up? Traditionally, that is what most legionnaires did. In fact many took wives/raised families while in the army, and when their term was up moved into the town near their posts.

This is evidence or perhaps even proof, that loyalties of at least some members of the government, lie elsewhere other than the British people.

The word words treason or treachery come to mind. No doubt it occurred to the decision makers as well while this imitative was under consideration but they obviously has reason to be confident that they had little to worry about.

Hasn't Mitochondrial DNA proved that we all technically emigrated from Africa at some point? Not that that's what this article is referencing
