He didn't even martyr himself...

What a sap.

In the name of Islam?
What does that even mean anyways.

For all he knew the cop was a converted Sunni.

Agreed this guy is a nutjob, but motivation matters. If his own twisted, messed up interpretation of Islam told him to go shoot a cop, then that's what happened.

There haven't yet been further details released on the suspect...including his name, race, religion, etc.

Which is why I said I "wonder". However, when you know that Philly has a large black muslim population, many of which subscribe to pro-black nationalist positions, it is not unreasonable to deduce that it could potentially be a combination BLM / Islam type of motivation given it was clearly an assassination attempt on a cop by someone claiming this is for Islam.

If he is I'd imagine it's more NOI than proper Islam.

You know the "white devil created by Yaqub and Fard is our Prophet" Islam as opposed to "Muhammad was the final Prophet and never said anything about that" Islam.

Something doesn't seem right.

We are familiar with things being committed in the name of Allah/God, but the guy said he did it for Islam.

That seems strange. Is the guy just another nutjob like how it usually is called in other cases where religion is a factor?

I have my suspicions that the shooter might not even be Muslim.

Most likely he's a nutjob, but also he good subscribe to black nationalist beliefs like the Nation of Islam. Just a guess though.

Article with images released:

Crap. That surveillance video is scary as hell. I can't imagine how that poor officer must have felt seeing that guy coming at him firing.

Unless he's a white Christian. Then he's worthy of death row. Predictable.

His motivation IS important. Article doesn't specify he was Muslim…it only states that he confessed that the assassination attempt was done "in the name of Islam"

He's a murderer, you believe what he says or someone says he says… right.

How important is it the guy he tried to kill is Catholic or Protestant?

Murder or attempted murder is the crime, not what he says or practices.

But I get the need to present an anti muslim sentiment attached to the lesser crime of murder.

Not exactly. With the suspect saying he did this for "Islam" I expect people who fear Muslims to use this as fuel for their distrusts of Muslims.

Fanning the flames of Islamaphobia, on the medias part. Same here, watch the response.

I'm amazed that people are trying to claim religion is irrelevant to this issue.

These people have declared jihad on the West. This guy made a statement that it was done "in the name of Islam".

The PERP brought it up. It is most definitely relevant.

Most likely of that strain but still Islam, no? I mean we don't say Westboro Baptist Church isn't proper Christianity do we? What is proper Islam? Is a Palestinian blowing themselves up Islam or is Islam just the guys/girls who don't blow themselves up?

Confessions are usually considered to be rather important evidence in court.
Obviously, he felt including he religious motivation in his confession to be germane to why he did it.

To follow the brainless train of thought by some on here, it's irrelevant what religion he is. The fact that his motivation was in the name of a religion is disturbing enough. And to top it off, most of the population here in Philly isn't too discerning. Whatever religion he is, he is bringing an unnecessarily negative connotation to Islam. Most people locally will blame Muslims regardless.

I see, so motivation for a crime is now irrelevant?

You believe the "official story", too. How relevant.

Pavlovs dog is salivating these days at the mere mention of Islam.

No surprise here, the newly elected mayor is already blaming this on guns.

Ya, it's irrelevant if you're a Muslim. It sure it was relevant to the cop who was shot three times for absolutely no reason except in the name of Islam.

The religion of other murder suspects being less relevant if they are catholic or atheist. Who cares?

Oh, the real haters care.

Not to my knowledge, they believe in Prophets after Muhammad and that Muhammad himself was not pure due to not being black.
Or they believe Muhammad was black.

Both are ludicrous.

I mean we don't say Westboro Baptist Church isn't proper Christianity do we?

I don't know who this "we" is, I don't consider WBC Christians.

What is proper Islam? Is a Palestinian blowing themselves up Islam or is Islam just the guys/girls who don't blow themselves up?

That's up to God.
