Please forgive me if this is the incorrect forum.

Recently I stumbled upon this awesome video from National Geographic. It's a short video showcasing how incredible a chameleons' tongue is at caching prey and other chameleon tongue facts. The video helps put in perspective with all the great shots at different angles.

Chameleon tongues are extremely fast and long. They can be anywhere from one to 11/2 times the bodylength of the owner and can rocket in and out with blinding speed. A 51/2" tongue reaches full extension in 1/16th of a second, which is fast enough to snatch a fly in midair.

For more information I advise you to visit these links. Within there's much more detail about chameleon's tongues and how they work.

Great share OP - love the photo you chose to include at the bottom - what a shot!!

I'm amazed at the technology of the cameras used to capture things like this - their shudder speeds, resolution capabilities, etc.

But nature is MUCH more impressive, as demonstrated by the chameleon and its pink whip of a tongue
