Freethinking isn't welcomed in a socialist utopia.

Could you please stop blamming socialism when pretty much everything you talked about is actually facism? Sure, paying taxes is socialism but being forced to get services from companies is facism.

Why can't they come to a compromise?

If trash really is the "issue" then why can't both sides come to an agreement over who will be picking it up?

I agree that we shouldn't be polluting the environment with waste. It needs to be processed.

They tax the SAME dollar X amount of times before it even reaches my pocket.

Even once I finally become a homeowner/landowner, I am expected to pay property taxes annually through the roof.

They are definitely targeting "off-the-grid" folks, but if they're still getting tax money I think they need to shut the hell up. Oppression... it's getting worse by the minute

Because one side pays for trash pick up, the other side dumps it wherever.

I'm still looking into this place, but well damn, I guess even an off the grid community needs someone to tell them what is right and wrong...sigh

The problem again is TRASH. Really, you think off the grid people produce zero trash? They recycle everything? You are so deluded it's not worth talking to you, there is a proper way to go off the grid, and it's NOT by using GRIDDED services without the cost, that's being an asshole.

Why couldn't you just take the trash to the dump yourself? I'm not off grid but I do live in the forest and don't venture out if I don't need to. There are 3 locations within a 50 mile radius I can take my trash to for proper disposal. So I don't understand how that is an issue.

Now if they just left the garbage laying about that would be another issue, primarily ordinance. Further, this past summer I was leveling some land on my property for a build and came across a very large garbage pit used for a couple generations. Needless to say I had to go the other way and add dirt to level but it could be a prospect for off-grid types.

What is the reason that they deny people camping on their own property It's a bit strange

they will say it's for health and sanitation reasons.
but the real reason is Tax Dollars..
if you live in a tent, don't have a septic tank/sewer, hook up to utilities, have trash pickup.
they can't charge you for any building permits, place a value on your house so the can increase the tax every year, place a energy, telecom, cable tax or any thing they can think of.

all about Tax Dollars..

Although i agree its about money since its always about money.

However they can still tax you for land and still appraise your land without any county utilities on them.

Also typically when govt does anything its usually and more often than not for the benefit of the big oligopolies versus tax reasons.

So i think this is less about taxes and more about control and protecting big utilities and possibly valid concerns for those that have been improperly disposing of waste and using others privately owned resources.

Someone said it here its a good cause to fight for but the wrong people appear to be leading it.

This issue really disgusts me.

I'd like to say they should go in with guns blazing like the Old West, but we can't do that anymore. The only real legal recourse is to boot everyone out at election time.

It should never be illegal to camp on your own land. This denial of permits is just another Big Brother tactic to control government income and personal movement. They may as well be asking, "Papers please."

Big government can't stand the thought of someone being free as our Founding documents decreed.

Interesting place, the San Luis Valley. One of the most active hotspots for paranormal and UFO activity.

Bingo.

If it catches on demand goes down. Demand goes down stock value goes down. Stock value goes down their pocketbooks go down.

I mean it's not like the who's who of establishment is not invested in many of these companies. To them you are stealing from them and that makes whatever they do about it ok. They are just protecting their investments for their families future. Wouldn't you do the same? Don't hate the player hate the game.

No, of course not. But you could probably barter. The ones I go to are pretty down to earth people.

You could donate time there helping in exchange for dumping rights. Offer crops or other goods and services.

I think it's funny how some people are so used to existing within a structured system they are completely incapable of thinking outside the box.

The whole point of being off grid it to be independent and not reliant upon a corrupted governmental system. There is always more than one way to skin a cat and what may work for one person may not work for another. But typically being that level independent means you are likely to produce your own crops, hunt your own meat and perhaps your own clothing, etc. There is always a need somewhere, people just need to get off the whole, my god we'll all die without our government nonsense. Than again there are always the good slaves. *shrugs*

Because what I am witnessing right now in america is that most Americans are in a coma.

You are here on ATS. You see the activist everywhere.

They will fight you tooth and nail about the rights of asylum seekers, and the rights of people to act out the gender of their choice; in the mean time every basic right that Americans once considered a given, has been swept away with never a peep. Hell, is some places people have lost the right to collect God given rainwater.

Now watch the folks come in screaming and debating there is no God, and all while ignoring the real problem of there being no water.

But that's not happening.

OMG people seriously, I'm the only one who actually looked further into this beyond the OP it seems. Noble cause but it's like the KKK is the spokesperson for it. I WANT to find an off the grid community like this group is portrayed as, I would be moving there within months, literally. This might be the place, but these guys n gals are ruining it already for us that would do it proper.

Absolutely. Corporations aren't evil.

A corporation has to infinitely increase profits and growth for infinity in order to survive. We have a system that allows them to do that via lobbying our congress to change the rules as they see fit. Lobbying ensures they keep that impossible infinite growth going. Its an unattainable task unless you cheat.

Our system allows them to legally cheat so I don't blame them. I blame the political loyalist cheerleaders that don't hold their own party accountable and are more busy blaming the other party and creating excuses than focusing on the only issue we should be discussing. Which is the dependency and blatant bribery of our gov't with big money.

Anything that gov't does is strictly for the benefit of the established Oligopolies in charge and to stale competition.

but it's not nearly as much if there are no structures and utilities on them. it's called development and that means more tax dollars.

for instance, i have 15 acres most on separate deeds. the one with the house on it is almost $400( rounding up) a year and has gone up twice in 5 years. then 6 that i bought to keep the developers from moving in are up now to almost up to $100, when they were as low as $69. the others i bought are between my neighbors who also have 10 plus acres, and now are right around $79.

then if you look at your bills, at least here, you see the tax that the state, county, city, charges on utilities. if you don't have them on your propriety they can't tax you.

three links,

Communications services tax applies to telecommunications, video, direct-to-home satellite, and related services. The tax is comprised of two parts: the Florida communications services tax and the local communications services tax.
Communications Services Tax

Tax is imposed at the rate of 2.5% on gross receipts from the sale, delivery, or transportation of natural gas, manufactured gas, or electricity to a retail consumer in Florida. Tax due on the sale or transportation of natural or manufactured gas to retail consumers in Florida is computed by multiplying the quantity sold or transported by the appropriate index prices and then applying the 2.5% gross receipts tax rate. Index prices used by distribution companies to calculate the gross receipts tax due on the sale or transportation of natural or manufactured gas to retail consumers are adjusted yearly.
Florida Gross Receipts Tax on Utility Services

Municipal public service tax is locally imposed and administered by municipalities and charter counties under Chapter 166, Florida Statutes. The only responsibility of the Florida Department of Revenue is to gather tax data from local governments imposing the tax and provide it to the public. The Department depends on each taxing authority to ensure the information is accurate. Municipal public service tax is levied on six utility services: natural gas, LP gas, manufactured gas, electric, water, and fuel oil/kerosene. A municipality or charter county must report tax information if it does not provide the utility service itself or through a separate authority, board, or commission. It is required to report the tax rate, effective date and a contact name.
Municipal Public Service Tax

so you see the government gets their tax money from everything you do on your land, state, county, city. unless you don't use these services.

Taxes. The more sq footage more taxes. This is bad for the plan of lowering Corp taxes and making it up through private property owners.

so you see the government gets their tax money from everything you do on your land, state, county, city. unless you don't use these services.

And some of those services, like water and sewage, they can force you to use. In some areas they will allow you not to hook up to the services, but you will still be forced to pay for the installation, and it isn't cheap.

That is the gift headed my way. I plan to leave it to the city folk that are pushing us country folk out of the way. I am torn between hooking up a 5th wheel, and following the road, or expatriating somewhere amenable.

Where do you get off thinking its "YOUR LAND"? I don't care if you paid your mortgage off, try not paying your property tax and you will then find out who really owns YOUR property. The government really owns all property and that is exactly the way it should be! If it weren't for the government, where would we be? I am proud to be an American & I love my government! I think Hillary Clinton will be the greatest president in U.S. history!

It would be a tragedy if anyone isn't able to see the sarcasm in that post.

Some people are blind. There's not a damn thing you or I can do about it. So if they can't see the beauty in sarcasm, I feel sorry for them. You should never take any of this sh$t too seriously. PEACE.

So, ATS what is your take on this issue?

It makes my blood boil,
You're not hurting anyone. Every time county/local govt "finds fault" its usually with the end goal in mind of "regulate, charge fee, control"

You're given a title when you pay off the bank - its only a piece of paper allowing to use the land up to a certain depth, as long as you continue paying property/land taxes! Think also eminent domain.

Its funny how a disproprtionate number of people live off the backs of the hard working; bankers, bureaucrats, government employees, lawyers, investment advisors come to mind -/sarcasm/ Not very funny at all
