There is a link to an article by Chapman and Melbourne that explains the depth of future rupture and risk to inland areas from the Cascadia subduction zone. It was their contention back in 2009 that the risk inland needs to be reassessed, as history shows the North American plate is not as safe as it once seemed. Worth a read.

Time lapse of felt earthquakes in Canada. Most of them happen along the west coast.

Stay Safe. It might be a good time to take a vacation away from the West Coast. The article says they believe that the plate has just subducted drastically under the North American plate which is exactly what happened in 1700 prior to the massive earthquake.

DO NOT PANIC - There is no tsunami or volcanic eruption at this time.

There has merely been an "event" in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Oregon in the Cascadia Subduction Zone. This is a very rare occurrence with serious implications. It is worthy of very close monitoring by persons in the potentially-affected areas. This event is a potential warning of a POSSIBLE pending large earthquake on the west coast. There could also be an eruption at Mount Hood.

Folks in Washington, Oregon and northern California as well as in Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA, should make certain they are prepared to take emergency action in the event a major quake does strike.

Merely been an event . . . famous last words.
